6 lands in the middle here. Heh I remember buying that brand new at Toys R US for gosh maybe 15 dollars this was well into the Snes life cycle. It's such a easy Mega Man which isn't necessarily bad but I made the comment before that sometimes when I beat the robot masters I would just turn the game off with the exception of 1 lol nah MM6 is such a chill game I remember coasting through the Wily stages too.

I do think 5 is a bit unheralded. It introduced Beat iirc. Mostly whatever I guess but it had the charged shot from 4.

I don't know what I'd rank them all, I had a tough time ranking Yakuza games in like 4 minutes. I like Mega Man 1 way more than anyone should but saying it is the best is stupid.

My personal ranking based on fun factor (all classic titles).

3, 7, 4, V, 10, 11, IV, 9, 6, 2, III, 5, 8, DWR, 1, II.......... RM&F

4 is the only physical copy I own. I wish I had a full NES collection but I'm not rich.

I don't even like my own ratings there. I just put 6 so low because it's pretty lame and too easy. It does have Centaur Man and Knight Man. Don't take this rating seriously.

I probably put 5 above 2 because shock reasons and just to be a dope.

That's really cool airhammy! I unironically like Mega Man soccer a lot. There was a time I did have the entire six collection at least loose but I sold off traded off most of my nes collection except for the ones I owned as a youngster or early 2000s rebuy before things got crazy in the retro market for something so common as just Contra.

As I recall...

X was the first I ever purchased (or got as a gift when I was young)
A friend later gave me his copies of 3, 7, and Soccer
I bought 2 and 4 used from game stores
5 I won in a silent auction during a Halloween fun night at the local elementary school
II for Gameboy was from a video rental, and it actually wasn't for sale but my mom talked the cashier into it somehow. We were on a trip at the time.
1 and 6 I bought off Funcoland.com (remember that place?), along with Bubble Bobble
8 was new at Toys r Us
I forget how I got X4...
X2 I bought used off a friend online
The Gamecube titles new in store
ZX was a used Christmas gift

I've beaten them all but it was long enough ago I'd have trouble ranking them

I do remember disliking 3 though

5 is my favorite for Gravity Mans level alone, that was amazing back in the day

I think the only reason why I rank three so high is because Rush was cooler than just platform 1-2-3 and the slide was bad ass and I really liked Snake Man. The music was as good as 2. But yeah my ranking is not to be taken with any real seriousness.

Six is at the top just because of the rush armor, thought that shit was dope. One is at the bottom cause for me it is the worst gameplay wise.

The reverse me? I wanted to put 1 first but that is stupid also it had a point system. Who goes around saying I got more points in Mega Man 1 than you!!!! That's not what Mega Man is about. It was about a boy with powers and you all took advantage of it. Jimminy Jillickers!!!!

-I think people should be nicer to 1's jank. The Magnet Beam, zips and the pause trick are fun.
-2 has the Metal Blade and a rock solid soundtrack but the castle stages drop the ball for me. Every robot has something going for them which is nice.
-I struggle to replay 3 because of the slowdown and like 2 the Wily castle at the very end is kinda meh. I do like that the weird boss weakness order encourages you to try different routes. I don't mind the Doc Robot stages at all. Doc Quick is a fully realized enemy of the people.

-I really don't like that in 5 you lose your charge if you get hit. It's a kind of tedium that no amount of free 1ups can atone for. Soundtrack is okay, Protoman's castle hard carries the ost. Super Arrow is awesome and deserved to stick around. Having Beat on hand to bulldoze Wily at the end is a nice option.
-Robot masters in 6 are on the forgettable side. Mr X's castle makes a herculean effort to hard carry the soundtrack. I like Tomahawkman's weapon. I like how the Flight Adaptor works in this game, with some physics to it unlike in 7 where they reworked it to be a upward diagonal dash.

No ranking. They're all neat. They all share a tier called MM9 destroys them but I do like them regardless. I'm sure people will disagree with this but I don't think they blend together nearly as much as the MMX games do.

I like the OP list aside from 3 being at the bottom

They all blur into my head to be honest.

The thing that most surprises me though is how poorly the entire series sold comparatively. My impression of the series as a kid was that each of the games was a huge release, and yet Mega Man 11 became the third best selling game in the franchise when it sold 1.3 million units. That means the first six games collectively sold less than ten million units.

Eh, I guess thats offset a bit with how insanely OP the full charge shot is in 5. Honestly, Ive never even noticed this much at all through my most recent playthroughs.

9 really is far better than it has any right to be. Easily holds its own against any of the original 6 as far as Im concerned.

Now 10, on the other hand I think its ok. Not a bad entry by any means, but its kinda just weird. It doesnt have nearly the amount of polish that 9 brought back to the table.

I like 5 because its piss easy with an OP mega buster.

The game went crazy with those short jumps where an enemy flies out of the hole to intercept you.

I don't really like the weapons in 10 either, weapon selection was something 9 absolutely nailed. In this one you get the thunder cloud that takes eight weeks to launch, Nitroman's wheel which is more like item 3 than a boss weapon, a remote missile where you have to stop moving to aim and chill spike.

Also too many of the robots are big dumb shapes with angry eyes drawn on as opposed to guys in stupid costumes. Makes it harder for me to come up with personalities for them.

Yeah.. Id go so far to say it has one of the worst arsenals, if not the worst, in the classic series. You kinda hit it on the head. Even the ones that are somewhat decent have some sort of odd trigger or exception you have to consider in order for them to be of any use. Triple Blades are pretty easily the best thing in the game, but even those have that awkward trajectory change when you fire them while jumping.

Its almost like the devs told themselves hey now, the weapons in 9 were too good and useful, we need to seriously take it down a notch for this one and just nerfed the hell out of everything. Thankfully things got back on track again with 11.

Some consider 8 to have weakest weapon set of the series followed by 2.

Flash Bomb and Metal Blade are the op weapons of the respective sets, but then the others are just kind of there.

Everything else in 8 does roughly the same damage to every basic enemy. Otherwise you use some as utilities, or to find hidden bolts. Thunder Claw allows you to swing. Flame Sword melts ice blocks. Astro Crush is a decent screen clear but has very few uses. Depending on how skilled you are at using it the Mega Ball is better.

10 is more middle tier (even with Thunder Wool being among the worst weapons overall).
