Frank wears shades in the opening.
Shades that clip if you have Frank wearing a hockey mask from a previous playthrough.

I never really stopped to examine this barricade they were building but it's not very good.
He's sending me to the opposite end of the entrance plaza to find more stuff, meanwhile there's a whole bench, two plants and a sign that aren't even up against the door.

Pros of completing Kent's photo challenge:
-Can get one of the last survivors.
-A boss fight is gated behind it.

Pros of deliberately failing Kent's photo challenge:
-Get to watch the best cutscene in the game.
-Less likely to be inconvenienced on day 3.

Hmmm...

This is a lv50 Frank.
I don't wanna just Mega Buster the thing but I really like having my wall kick and the Irish whip.
Everyone talks about the Buster and the Mini Chainsaws but lv50 Frank is the most fun weapon in the whole game.

Rescued Burt, Aaron, Leah and Sophie all at once. They were suspiciously intelligent and cooperative.
What could Dead Rising the first be planning?
I think I have a bit of time before Adam and Greg so I'm going to the maintenance tunnel to get the key.

I never noticed Adam had a Servbot pin on his outfit.
This must be an alternate version of 2006 where people liked Mega Man X6 and X7 so much that the franchise started raking in movie deals and also Servbot was the breakout star of MM Legends to the point people people started to remember the character and forget what game he was from..

"Yo Frank, give me a hand here!"
Frank approaches and takes a soda out of Brad's box of supplies.
Brad grabs Frank's wrist and pauses him.
Frank gives a frustrated "What gives?!" like he thought Brad wanted help drinking a whole box of sodas.

I wish this game got a remixed version.
We got so close multiple times. Chop til you drop was more like a different game and then DR2 got OTR which injected with a few things from this game.

I was just thinking I'm pretty much done with Al Fresca Plaza aside from Gordon on day 2 - who spawns right next to the door to the Food Court anyway - and it'd be nice if they redid the game and gave it an entirely different lineup of scoops and missions.

I also think they should have put at least one survivor in the maintenance tunnel. There's a bunch of cars down there with multiple seats and you never get to make use of that.

I kinda miss silly dialogue like this in games. Dead Rising had that perfect level of camp while the sequels tried too hard.

Agreed.
I didn't like Chuck making puns, telling me when to laugh when 2 first came out and I liked it less and less as time went on.

I'm doing this from memory and I keep stopping to wonder if I've missed an unmarked survivor.
I got Bill in entrance at the start. Sophie spawned with the convicts. Pamela and Heather in Paradise Plaza a while ago. Jennifer just spawned when the coat friends showed up.
Nick and Sally were on the Wonderland Plaza rabbit statue just now and I bought them back with the 4 you get from the boss fight.
I get Kindell when I have to escort Isabella, the gun store trio is on day 3 around morning time, Gil is in the Food Court very early in day 3. I think that's it.

I know I could look at the notebook and just run down the list but that would suck the tension out of it.

Waiting two in-game hours because I remember Sean's survivors being pretty much the worst survivors in the game + Paradise Plaza is absolutely packed with zombies around late day 2/early day 3.

It's a good trick for first timers though. You think "Oh Movieland that's just on the other end of Paradise Plaza yeah I can run there, grab a survivor or two and get back quickly." Not likely.

"We have to check if she's been bitten."
"Her injuries aren't serious, I can't tell if we're looking at a bite wound or not."
Jessie can still talk can't she? They could ask. If they go the whole game and Isabela straight up can't tell, but then minutes after what happens happens she's invented Zombrex, well that's pretty dark.

It's a shot in the dark but if I had to guess about Barnaby I'd guess Carlito dragging him across the floor would be the most obvious way for him to have contracted it.
I don't think they say anything about him having been bitten, but then again he does seem like the sort to hide a bite wound.

-Paul as a boss. Sprints fearlessly through zombies, rains explosive death on them. Made it to day three and managed to assemble his own weapons, squandering his abilities on pettiness.
-Paul as a survivor. Runs like he's been Irish whipped too hard, cannot fight off one zombie. Brings great shame. Manages to make having an unlimited supply of free molotovs lame somehow.

Dead Rising 1 was such a unique experience. It really saddens me that they made another mall Dead Rising right afterwards. Especially after Case Zero, which was absolutely incredible and should have been a full game. I would have much rather played a Dead Rising in a small abandoned western town than in another mall.

This does have me wondering what a game like Case Zero that played like DR1 would be like.

I'm more in favor of them taking DR1 and giving it a second quest with the same characters but with different scoops but I do kind of like the idea of taking 1's gameplay/tone and putting it in Case Zero or DR3's towns.

Brad gets a pretty raw deal. Especially against Carlito.

Fight 1, Carlito has Brad helplessly tied down by SMG fire. At the end Carlito easily escapes.

Fight 2, Same deal, Brad needs Frank to go to the hockey stick store and hockey puck sniper Carlito to death. After the fight Carlito and Brad shoot each other but Carlito easily escapes despite that.

Fight 3, Brad jumps out at Carlito (Who might have just sustained injuries after crashing his ice cream truck) and successfully shoots him in the stomach. Carlito still beats him in a hand to hand fight, stabs him in the shoulder and locks him in the maintenance tunnel.
At least it's not too long before Larry gives Brad the assist.

It's a small thing but I like how by the time he reaches Larry, Frank's less shocked and also has an idea of how to talk to them.
He makes sure to refer to Carlito as a piece of meat instead of a person, doesn't argue with anything Larry says in return.

Larry's not actually hostile when the fight music starts because Frank got through the cutscene in one piece. You actually have to aggro Larry on your own.

I should rewatch the DR2OTR psycho cutscenes sometime and see if Frank starts off with an idea of what he's dealing with or if they just went ahead and turned him halfway into DR4 Frank.

The scene where Jessie turns makes everyone look incompetent.
-The two soldiers who have guns manage to die to one zombie. The first one is strange enough but I have no idea how the second guy managed to be killed by her.
-Isabela just let it all happen, she got distracted by her falling out with Carlito to the point she forgets she's supposed to be checking if Jessie has the disease or just regular injuries.
-Frank still isn't considering that people with wounds will turn. He invites Leroy back, he knows Simone has a bite but talks her into coming to the safe room anyway, he offers to take Brad back and fix him up when Brad turns in the maintenance tunnel, he saw Jessie get attacked by a zombie but forgets like everyone else.
-Otis takes all fifty something survivors including the ones who are probably infected - and could have spread it to the rest? - and flies them out on a heli without waiting for Frank. Good luck with that, rest of the world. I think they confirm he made it in a later game and the game does count it as having saved that many survivors, but still, they keep it pretty vague just how well it went.

Man that last walk from the hideout to the heliport after the military's finished and disappeared feels strange.

Very familiar areas but without animated hordes everywhere and you can hear the mall music without zombie noises in the back. There's dead zombies all over the ground so you can tell what obviously happened but it still feels off.

Isabela says "It wasn't easy getting you back here by myself."
No seriously, how did she do that? That's off the helipad, through the security room, through the warehouse, through Paradise Plaza, across the park, through North Plaza and somehow up into that vent that leads to the hideout.

They're literally the exact same as the original but slightly altered which means they don't fit Frank since Chuck is a very different person from Frank. It's why I'm not as fond of OTR even though OTR does have a lot more content and QoL.

The worst change I can remember is Brandon going from "You're losing the courage to finish what you started." to "You're losing the courage to do what needs to be done."

I did like "Fall to your death" replacing "Win big" though.
