It's more like my favorite restaurant got a new cook who sucked ass and did not ever try any new recipes when trying to replicate the recipes of the previous owner and no one new ever came to the restaurant and it went out of business.

It hasnt actually gone out of business though.

Yeah business is slower than it was at its peak because its still a greasy spoon while all the kids and young 20 somethings are going to the hip new fast casual places or something. But it still draws a consistent crowd of regulars and while some of the grumpier ones like to doomsay about how its going to shut its doors any day since none of us are to privy to the actual business side none of us actually know that.

And no matter how friendly they were, it was rare if anyone thanked them except when we (the employees) collected money. Generally, it's understood that that person has a salary above what even the biggest earners in tips make on average.

When an owner is still controlling things, they reinvest some of the money they make, rather than work for a corporation.

It has something to do with it. Disregarding it doesn't mean it isn't relevant to how others feel about the situation, past, present, or future.

And he's not retiring, he resigned. He's parting ways with a job that many believed he wasn't very good at. These comparisons have to be realistic and not fantastical for everyone to be on board.

But you know what, I'll stop. Pretty much every other place discussing this news is shitting on him, so I'll go ahead and concede that that level of discourse isn't deserved.

Lopen is doing whatever it takes to give Allen a 500 topic as a farewell present. Good job, Lopen.

You sound like the unhappy one in this scenario. People are "mad" because you're just being rude. To continue the bar / restaurant metaphor, the owner has announced their retirement, everyone (a group of regulars) was celebrating/reminiscing on good times, and you're at a table in the corner saying "but he sucked though!" Like it's fine to have that opinion but what are you thinking is going to happen by saying that at this juncture.

Well, that was a great use of my time. Here I thought there might be some legitimately constructive conversation, or at least a modicum of well-wishing.

So let's talk about something else, k?

Since I suspect this news means it's unlikely we'll get another contest, I had given a ton of thought to who I would or could pick for guru. Assuming the next contest would have been general characters, and assuming it would have been before the release of Silksong, I probably would have picked Hornet.

I've spun my wheels thinking about this, and came to the conclusion that there's a few factors for a "good" guru pick, and Hornet ticks basically all the boxes. Has never been in a contest. Would probably not make the field otherwise (again, supposing this is pre-Silksong.) Has the potential to absolutely blow up (esp. if an actual release date happened mid-contest.) Belongs to an IP that is liked enough by most to have decent street cred. And I absolutely loved Hollow Knight when I finally got around to playing it.

There are a good number of other characters I gave serious thought to, and if the sequencing changes where Silksong happens first, I'd probably scrap Hornet because she'd get in anyway, but suffice it to say I had explored this from every angle. Even the darkest timeline where I would nominate one of my favorites from Genshin and open the door to a rally taking over the contest. (You want to talk about something bringing traffic to the site, lol.)

Ah nah it's good the trip was just poorly planned and got me on the borderline of depression thats why I didn't go to more of them. I had fun at the thing though and everyone was pretty nice.

But I'm doing a lot better now. The best time of my life is now. And I do think that ill planned trip helped me grow as a person so yeah all good

If you read the room, you would have dropped the matter 100 posts ago instead of repeating your point 30 or 40 times when it's evident that mostly everyone else here isn't interested.

Lopen can read the room, but he also doesn't care. He's fine being the guy who brings the mood down because he doesn't think the mood should be up.

Lopen is the sad case of a dude that used to be(long long ago now) a perfectly cool user that thrned extra extra bitter about everything.

I assume it is due to life just being weird but it kind of sucks to see people we've known for so long turn out that way.

I responded to people rebutting me by misrepresenting my point with 28-38 of those repetitions. Not my fault b8 is full of people who intentionally misread arguments so they can think they won them. I was actually content to leave it at "this guy sucks, helped kill Gamefaqs, and good riddance though shame we won't get any more contests now"

Also I'm a completely nice person to people who are nice. The big thing I changed over the years is not giving a damn what anyone around here thought about me and calling out stupidity when I see it.

But there are plenty of people I get along with around here just fine. In fact I would say it's more of the board than not it's just the people who spend too much time on here and especially the discord generally dislike me. Wonder why that is.

Thanks for all the hard work Allen, especially putting up with all the bullshit people gave you during this time. Some of it was deserved, but I know A LOT of it wasn't, and no human should have to deal with the amount of turd you probably received. So again, thanks for your service and I hope you continue to enjoy being here.

So one hand, I get that, and I always feel like when I'm misrepresented that I need to explain myself further. (It usually doesn't end well.) On the other, that wasn't really how I read the thread, taking in all of pages 3-5 at once, largely because the responses are so tone-deaf. It's like showing up at a funeral just to tell everyone that they shouldn't be honoring the person who died, and being surprised when the guests react unfavorably.
