I am going to make Thanksgiving for everyone. And I am so excited. However I have never done this before so checking and double checking everything.
I know this isn't good with my diet, but I am deep frying that son of a hen.

So I have to get some oil for the Turkey in that AM. I don't like going on Saturdays so that sucks. But still can't wait.

How long before the cook should I take the turkey out.

Yes, though since my husband and I are just cooking for two, we go with duck instead of turkey.

I have done multiple Thanksgiving meals but it really isn't that big of a deal for me as I literally cook every meal fresh from scratch and have for years for various health/gut issues. Also at various times throughout the year I will do a turkey since it is such cheap and delicious meat. It is like $1 a pound where I'm at in the Midwest and the stores will often do a special where if you buy a ham they give you a free turkey.

Yes. My job is to make the stuffing (from a bag, but I add a ton of stuff to it) and mac and cheese (from a roux). I think I'm also going to add biscuits this year.

It's not easy, but damn does it make a ton of great leftovers.

I've never deep fried one, but i did make Thanksgiving dinner and I've made some parts of it like mashed potatoes, sweet carrots, cornish game hen and pumpkin cheesecake. I'm sure you'll get all kinds of awesome tips. Hope it all turns out delicious and good luck

Yeah. I was dating someone during covid, so we had such a cute, romantic two person Thanksgiving.
I did almost, if not, all of the cooking.
My suggestion is don't overwhelm yourself. Keep your timing loose and try to have a warming oven. That way you things can finish when they finish, and if it's early, you can keep it warm.

Well I have made my self sick. I have been trying different spices to put on my turkey. I am guessing that they didn't mix well. I was making different combos and mixes. Doing my own stuff, stuff I got from the store. In the end. I went with....

Holy Voodoo seasoning from Meat Church.

IT has a sweet taste, but it can still take high temps.

I've made turkey tons of times but I've never deep fried it. I always reference Alton Brown's method of turkey prep each time before I shove that bad boy in the oven and it comes out great each time. Pretty sure he has a method for deep frying it too, so you might want to check that out before you get started. One thing I know for sure he talks about is displacement, cause holy shit don't forget to account for the mass of the turkey when you're heating up that pot of boiling oil cause that shit could burn your house down if you do.

Turkey frying should be done outside.

Not like the whole dinner, but I've contributed to it. I usually make a macaroni and cheese that's well-received. Sometimes I make a dessert too.

My dad usually handles the turkey, puts it in the smoker and it turns out delicious.

I won't use a propane deep frier, I be use a electric in door frier . It looks like this. When I use to eat like a sumo. I would feel that basket up with chicken wings.
