It was real good. I loved quake 2 and 3 in high school but none of my friends played it. They all got into Tribes 2. We had a ton of fun playing it together. Skying and bunnyhopping around. The old disc launcher is a really memorable fps gun for me.

I literally just discovered this two days ago, but hi-rez sold the rights to tribes and there's a tribes 3 that you can sign up for the beta on steam right now. I played a game last night and it doesn't have any of the base defense stuff yet but the basic gameplay and skiing feels right.

I loved that game so fucking much, and I just happened upon it at some random bargain bin thrift shop by sheer chance.

It had the best built-in social networking tools with the ability to manage your clan and send e-mails in game.

The gameplay was challenging but everything felt perfectly balanced. I could actually do stealth pretty well and pilot the vehicles well, too, nothing felt unfair or unnecessary. And getting timing down to snipe asses with that disc gun was such a great feeling.

The mods were ridiculous, too, like one that let you just do free construction in a persistent server, or one that added nuclear weapons to the arsenal. And you could easily swap between custom modded games and regular games...

like seriously the perfect game.

I read they are making a new Tribes and it's supposed to have more of that original T2 feel.

also I was a nerd and I swapped out the music with FF8 music because literally all you had to do was drop a .wav (or maybe it was .mp3?) file into the audio folder and rename it to the level name.
