Dragon Ball/Z/Kai - enjoyed greatly
Dragon Ball GT - hated it
Yu Yu Hakusho - Peak
4kids Yu-Gi-Oh OG - Peak

subs:
Higurashi - hated it
Madoka Magicka - hated it
JoJo's 1-3 - enjoyed greatly
Attack on Giant - hated it til it got funny
Kaiji - peak for the first arc, bad after that, then pretty good for the dice arc, then bad again
Aggretsuko - saw up to s4, loved it

manga i've read

One Punch Man - bailed after garou arc, stopped enjoying it (og webcomic fan)
Parasyte - peak
Elfen Lied - hated it except for Bando
Gantz - hated it except for Muscle Rider
Rosario to Vampire - hated it til it became a YYH ripoff
All Junji Ito - it's fine
All JJBA - hated it after part 3, part 7 goated again, didnt finish 8
Fullmetal Alchemist - hated it except for Scar
Death Note - loved it til L bit it
Homonculus - hated it

that's all i can remember for now

Kaiji was a good pick cuz it was so stylish and different from what i expect. really felt cool and unique, even if i ended up not enjoying it so much

Cowboy Bebop's always my goto for "anime for people who don't like anime" recs. Problem is it sets a very high bar that other series don't match. >_>

These are all pretty cool.

I dont really like anime either but I do still love a lot of older sci-fi anime like Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Vampire Hunter D, stuff like that. They all still hold up really well, too.

the main character of cowboy bebop seems cool. cool design at least

Yea based on what you said you liked hunter x hunter is a good choice

If you enjoyed the first half of Death Note, then you might enjoy Code Geass. Code Geass involves giant mech battles, but the main character is similar in that he's constantly trying to outsmart his enemies.

I'd also recommend:

• Steins;Gate - Sci-fi anime about time travel. Some things seems weird or out of place until the story comes full circle and everything clicks. And I loved that.
• Frieren: Beyond Journey's End - Fantasy anime about an elf mage that didn't really care about forming bonds with people since elves have much longer lifespans (she's over 1,000 years old). But she goes on a new journey and slowly realizes the impact that her previous allies had on her. It's a really touching story with some comedy and action mixed in. It's still ongoing though.
• Eighty Six - A Sci-fi/drama about a group of teenaged soldiers that are forced to fight in a war, by a country that views them as subhuman (because they aren't pure blooded). This show has amazing writing and it made me ugly cry a few times. Just be warned that it can be graphic at times. It does not shy away from the death and destruction that comes with war.

iirc, you're a Soulsborne fan, and the Berserk series is a huge inspiration for it.

if you do check it out, I recommend the '97 anime series, but the manga is the best way to check it out.

if you like that, then Gungrave - it has some similarities, plus it's just good, IMO (check out Trigun, too, which is from the same creator).

I've also seen you post in the Yakuza topics, so I recommend GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka.

he's not exactly like Kiryu (he's actually pretty ridiculous), but it's about a reformed hoodlum with a heart of gold...plus he's still badass.

Oh if TC likes Yakuza, then I'd also recommend The Way of the Househusband. It's about an ex Yakuza that gets married and does all of the household chores while his wife works. It's hilarious.

Off the top of my head these are the most memorable and unique animes that my non anime watching friends have enjoyed

Edit: Damn no one else had recommended Samurai Champloo? That shows truly one of a kind. It's hard to say what's more enjoyable. I think both the sub and sub are great for it.

I really liked the Cowboy Bebop episode where they meet an actual cowboy.
Found all the other episodes kinda meh.

Also this one is a classic. Another big name mecha franchise is Gundam, but the franchise is so over saturated it's hard to get into.

Should you get curious, I highly recommend the OVA series Gundam: The Origin. It's more of political war drama than anything. Really easily digested by regular watchers. My girlfriend had never watched a robot anime except for Evangelion and she easily got into and enjoy The Origin

Little Witch Academia for anyone who likes The Owl House. Mind you, I watched LWA before the latter came out and checked it cause of comparisons.

Recommend a movie for someone who doesnt watch/like movies.
