Feels like one of those purchases you buy thinking you'll use it a lot, but ends up gathering dust ...

I would like one though

I have a NordicTrack treadmill in the home gym along with with a NordicTrack elliptical. It uses the iFit suite of fitness programs where you can workout with a trainer across various locations. I find them very motivating and I look forward to completing them.

I have one, but given the chance, I would have chosen to get a stationary or elliptical. The one I bought didn't cost much, I think I would get better use out of any other cardio equipment.

This is true, but I wouldnt fancy running where I live. The air pollution and the traffic make it very unappealing for that.

A mask doesnt solve the traffic problem.

Id rather just do it in a room with purified air. And air conditioning. Where I wont be hit by a bike.

Dont get wrong, when Ive lived elsewhere I would have argued for the value of actually running over doing it on a treadmill.

I go a gym. Never saw a point in home exercise equipment unless you're insanely wealthy with a full service gym in your house.

Wife wanted a Peleton bike. She used it 5 times. Two years later I threw it out and I'm pretty sure she still doesn't know because it was in a room in the house she doesn't use

That probably depends on your goals, which I didn't clarify. I'm a big fitness enthusiast myself and couldn't possible use a "set of dumbbells" to accomplish any of my goals. Bench pressing pressing is my aphrodisiac and getting to 405 takes a massive, multimodal push to achieve, especially since my frame isn't exactly built for it.

But I can refine my answer and state if someone wants to "casually" exercise I suppose it's reasonable and indeed better than nothing.

A room with a rack, bench, some pads, and dumbbells would be enough for the vast majority of people I'd think

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Yeah this is what I'm thinking. It'd be nice to just go into the garage or whatever room for a few quick moves whenever some free time opens up.

There was one in the house when I was growing up but no one used it. There was all kind of exercise equipment and a Bowflex that I don't remember anyone using. My parents even got that Wii Fit exercise thing and never used that either. I guess they thought if they bought enough shit they'd just wake up in good shape one day.

Exercising at home takes a certain mindset, and most people who try it quickly lose focus. At least actively going to a gym is more likely to keep you focused. Then again most people who get a gym membership never use it.

Exercising is hard. Its unpleasant. And it doesnt even work for everyones body. One of several flaws with the human body.

Some people can do it, sure. Good that you can. But several posts in this topic show that a lot of people cant. People buy exercise equipment and never get around to using it all the time.

Heck my uncle is enthusiastic about exercise and he says he wouldnt do it at home.

I have an elliptical. How much I use it comes and goes, but I've been using it 3-4 times weekly for a while.

I used to work as a software developer for a major manufacturer of them so I got one on deep discount

Sure, but that doesnt mean that exercise doesnt work. It means that for some people its easier or harder to see the results that they want. It doesnt stop exercise being beneficial.

Yeah, I had one for awhile now. Right here matter of fact.
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/0/0e85d251.jpg

I got to use it a bit more than I do.

I always found the best way for me to focus was to find a good show to watch in the background. Back when the first 3 seasons of the walking dead was more recent id watch a full episode each treadmill session. I did that 3 times a week.

I did the same thing with breaking bad. I never actually saw stranger things before so whenever I start back up ill put on episodes of that.

Yeah, its a good approach. You turn your downtime into increased calorie burning. Ive also found that if you say you will only watch the show when exercising then the exercise doesnt feel like a chore, because you get to watch the show you want to watch.

I have an exercise bike that I use almost every day. I use the excuse to watch subtitled anime since otherwise I probably wouldn't pay enough attention.

I could just go out and jog, but most of the time the weather is dangerous for that (too hot) and drivers around here are crazy.

after reading their last post it just sounds like they cant commit to anything if they think they can develop any skills. People can move around in wheelchairs with nothing but their breath, he just needs to actually try and commit to something.
