I'm 42 and exactly the same, except I haven't had a job in 24 years either. I don't want kids though and never having a gf isn't that big a deal. I like not having responsibilities.

Do you live with someone who pays for all your needs? Do you have a handicap of some sort?

Do you tc?

I live with my parents and I have severe social anxiety. I have done absolutely nothing with my life in the last 24 years because I just don't want to be an adult and have responsibilities and work for a living and all that. So I don't. My parents are okay with this. I'm sure they wish I had a normal life but they don't want to force me.

I think context always matters. Like if youre purposefully living with elderly or disabled relatives to help watch over them and take care of them that is completely different than someone who decided to never leave home and just mooches off their parents.

There are always situations that can arise out of nowhere and cause a setback. A sudden loss of your job, a sudden divorce and you have no where to go. These are much different situations than never leaving the nest.

Some people cant leave home though because of a disability or whatever. It happens. Many people have many different circumstances.

Your situation is your business but I just hope your feelings about your situation arent being influenced by others. If its simply how you feel about your situation then maybe you can work on either why you feel that way or change the circumstances of why you feel that way.

You could try getting a work from home job.

I work for Scribe America. I work at home and say MAYBE 30 words a day and only to one person

The work is easy and stress free for the most part

They're always looking for new hires, no experience or education necessary. Just need to have a GED, pass a background check, and pass a urine test

So there are absolutely things out there for people with bad social anxiety if you're willing to try

This. Some people never find anyone. It just doesn't happen. It's better than marrying someone that you're unattracted to (physically and/or emotionally) for the hell of it. But even given that, it can still happen. You're 37 not 77. You'll have to put some serious effort in though.

But the living with your family, I would try to fix. It'll increase your quality of life by a lot.

Doesn't pay much but it's better than nothing

Also the experience is insanely valuable. You're literally the closest person to a doctor every day, working right beside them (either in person or remote) 8 hours a day (or you can do part time)

Now, I'm 35, Single and for the first time in my life, truly untethered to anyone else around me (Live in Seattle/Bellevue area)

This excites me as much as it frightens me.

One of my wife's friends has cystic fibrosis terminally confined to a wheelchair and she's able to hold down a WFH job as a writer. She and her husband (yep) are looking for a house last I heard.

If this guy is 42 then I wonder how old his parents are. My father died just over 3 years ago - trust me they don't last forever.

40, no kids. Have had plenty of girlfriends, though. At this point having kids at my age would probably be very tiresome. If it happens it happens. It isn't for everyone. As long as you are happy don't let societal expectations bring you down. But if you wish for a wife and kids and the white picket fence, go out and make it happen!

I've never once in my life had any life ambitions or goals or dreams. The only thing I am good at is doing nothing. I've been shut-in for 24 years only going out in public a hand full of times during that entire time span. I'm immune to cabin fever. All I want to do is be left alone. I would absolutely apply for disability if I knew I could get it. I don't want to work.

Do you have a decent job or striving to better yourself if you don't already? Do you help your parents out? That's not a loser in my eyes if you meet those two.

I live with a parent. if I get it a long term relationship, I'll move out. But I need to find someone to live with her, cause she has health stuff.

Not that 40 is some magic age but by the time you're 40 you probably want to have some kind of plan to live independently of your parents since they're not going to be around forever.

Bro no offense, but you share a lot about your life on the sex board, and the relationship you have with your parents is very unhealthy as weve told you many times.

Probably not directed at me but I'll answer. No job and not really striving to better myself except I did start working out in 2019 and have kept it up to this day. I exercise every day for about 10-15 minutes. Pushups, crunches, some weight lifting, and walking/jogging on our treadmill. I do help my parents around the house with chores but that's it.

Look man. If you were truly healthy and happy with your life then you wouldnt be in this topic right now.

Thats probably the only advice that I or anyone else can give you that holds any value. Introspection.

Sometimes we delude ourselves into thinking things arent problematic when they really are. Being able to recognize I dont like my life is a necessary first step into making any sort of positive change whatsoever.

I think perhaps thats what this topic will do for you.

I haven't really talked to anyone in person outside of my parents and my little brother in the last 24 years. The last time I talked to anyone else in person, was a psychiatrist/physiologist when I was 18 and he only made things worse for me so I quit seeing him.
