I know that a lot of anime fans hate when the soundtrack of an anime is changed during the localization process, for one reason or another.

But with DBZ, a significant number of fans seem to prefer the dub/Faulconer soundtrack over the original one.

I only know like one song from either

Faulconer or bust.

Faulconer tracks are superior in almost every way!

Except for the whole thing where there's never a second of god damn silence in the dub.

A lot of cartoons (well, mainly those from the 80's and 90's) and dubs targeted at children do this as well. I agree that it's annoying.

Wonder what music JoJo would have if not for licensing. I'm glad we got a lot of original stuff out of it, though.

Most people prefer the first one they heard and never experienced any others anyway, so the question is moot from a sampling point of view.

I prefer the Japanese score because the Faulconer wont allow a single goddamn second of silence. But my point is that barely any US residents who watched DBZ on Toonami in the 90s have ever even attempted to watch it in Japanese with subtitles, so as far as Im concerned, those votes shouldnt be counted as they cant possibly know what theyre talking about.

Yeah, this. Although I do have a soft spot for dub-original opening themes.

Yeah, the Kai dub was dead out of the water for me because it wasn't using the Faulconer soundtrack and music is a huge part of what makes things memorable to me, between that and them redubbing lines so those sound different as well. I just can't watch Kai.

not a fan of the faulconer OST, but there is one show where I prefer the dub OST, OG Beyblade

I care way less about the dub soundtrack than I do the voice actors. I grew up hearing these characters in english for like 20 years before i ever heard them in japanese, so it just sounds weird as hell - especially Goku, most of the other characters are great in japanese, it's just weird.

Other than the sometimes out of place slide whistle the Japanese track is superior.

Some of the Faulconer tracks are good. Overall the original is much better.

The generic carnival band music of the sub bored me. It worked better for the OG Dragonball series. I much prefer the edge and electronic flare of the dub with Faulconer.

I have tried to give it a shot but it does not suit the overall mood of Z. The dub soundtrack does match the overall mood.

It's not necessarily "preferred" but a lot of people like the OG Pokmon dub soundtrack, mostly out of nostalgia but still.

FMA Brotherhood too I think?

for dragon ball and dragon ball z, I prefer the sub because the dub has really muted background sounds (I'm talking about the synthesis that is heavily used in the sound design of DB and DBZ) that appear lower in the mix. Also, I love the narrator's voice for the DB sub.

you sure it was the kikuchi score and not the yamamoto one? Since some later versions had a poorly placed versions of the former while earlier ones had the latter

it was always a mix of original and dub OSTs, but up until like halfway through gen 5 they left in a good amount of the original OST. Gens 6 onwards usually replace like 80% of them, and the dub OST also got worse

I'll never understand why TPC replaces the music in the dub. It can't be a money issue, since 1) smaller localization studios can retain the music of their dubs; and 2) It's the fucking Pokemon Company; they're loaded.

Nope. Pokemon was another one that got completely different songs in the English dub that were beloved by fans.

And although they weren't completely different songs, I also really liked the English dubbed openings/endings for 90's anime like Yu Yu Hakusho and Dragon Ball

It is a money thing. They do it so other countries' dubs that are based on the english dub have to pay TPCi
