Im not sure why the outrage. This community will still be here for every rule abiding veteran. The real change is no rampant alts or trolls anymore, which should be viewed as a good thing.

The only way this could backfire is if there is excessive heavy handed moderation on this board, which would slowly erode the core user base. Otherwise, CE is now on the path to becoming a safe haven from trolls.

If they're never letting a new user in again it means the board is gradually going to die. That's what fandom is after, not getting rid of trolls.

It's funny to see how fast CE used to move back in the day. In 2007 I remember if your topic didn't get any posts, it was off the front page within a minute or 2. Now it feels like it takes ages for topics to leave the front page >_>

I wasn't that long on CE, but seeing all these nostalgia topics lately, and suddenly they drop such a bomb must be terrible.

Like, there are many people who are part of this community for half of their live or even longer, and suddenly the announcement to "improve" (bury it away) comes up.

Im just playing catchup, seeing all of this after work. Its pretty sad. The ownership have a vision that does not include discussion of current events and instead of just saying that and killing it right away they are trying to be coy. It would be one thing to make the board private or have a decent karma requirement. That would comply with their stated vision and not kill the board. Instead they have chosen slow death.

Its normal for ownership to have a vision that isnt liked by all of the user base. But the post today is poorly written corporate b.s. that doesnt say much. Its full of contradictions and seems like typical GPT initiated drivel. Be clear and tell people the truth. Its better for everyone. You cant say you want to foster healthy discussion and also kill the very board on which its been designated to take place.

Yeah like everyone is saying this is them slowly killing off the boards so there's not much of a reaction when they completely close it down.

they should also make it so that if your posts are too mild you're kicked as well
make it like a speed limit where the rules for how much is too little or too far are vague
but people who toe the line are also suspicious so we should mod them just in case they're up to something

That's an interesting point. I understand if someone who gets purged would be banned from CE. But what about those who became purged before today and are still purged? Would they basically get one more chance (once they become unpurged) before they are gone?

Yeesh, thanks for putting that into perspective. I've been pretty good about not getting moderated lately, however the new private status may encourage some mods to filter us out quicker when they get our reported posts.

No it wasn't. That board had archived threads many would go back to for education, reference or for arguments of he/she said, and now it's locked to everybody except admins and lost forever.

They basically told everybody who posted on that board over the years to go fuck themselves.
