Problem is that the American politicians supporting this ban... also want to destroy us. This wasn't pushed out of genuine concern of China (Republican politicians love Russia), but more "Only we can push propaganda!"

I don't get why the security angle is being dismissed. China has been loading us with spies constantly, for years.

If the Chinese wanted data on American citizens they could legally buy it from the various data collection companies.

1. Evidence via plausibility: China's government can assert control over anything in their domain. They have motive and method to spy on us via tiktok.
2. "Until evidence, xenophobia". You're saying that the xenophobia exists until it retroactively doesn't, based on a conditional. This makes no sense. With charitable interpretation, one could read that you're just assuming xenophobia until evidence, but that is also very stupid.
3. I don't think you understand what xenophobia is. You think you do, but you don't. If you try to explain, which you should, you might catch yourself.

Pretty sure that Republicans are only mad at TikTok because they don't like competition.

I guarantee that Youtube, Facebook and Twitter will all help Western democracy decay and eventually die because it makes them money, and then their execs will express surprise when they get brigaded into unmarked vans. We all know about the algorhythmic alt-right pipeline on those sites, especially Youtube.

A five second internet search would show you plenty of the harm that Tiktok does, but you don't want to face reality do you. The Kia boys in the US. Ram raiders here in New Zealand, where underage criminals would steal cars, smash them into shops, run off with loot, and post videos of their crimes on Tiktok. Then there was all that crap about "maybe Bin Laden had some good ideas" a few months ago.

American social media encourages bad shit too, the worst of which is basically domestic terrorism. But China has a vested interest in making the West (especially America) weaken itself, and the Chinese government also wants to be able to say, "look how degenerate the West is, China is so much better."

It's not terrorism and it's not open warfare, it's weird cold war ratfucking shit, but should Americans really welcome it and defend it? Tankies and China shills will naturally defend this to the death because they're incapable of any other response, but it seems like a lot of other Americans are so technologically illiterate that they'll happily open themselves up to hostile manipulation.

They would never have been targeting the individuals. That's impossible to enforce. It was about allowing them to be downloaded in American spaces. But TikTok shouldn't need a VPN to access. Simply suggesting that means that the government is wrong for outlawing it so you're suggesting unauthorized ways to bypass it from governments that haven't outlawed it.

If this was really about security, then there would be action taken against social media companies that allow the type of stochastic terrorism of shit stains like Chaya Raichik, that has actually gotten Americans killed. That's way more important than some nebulous threat of what China may or may not do with people's data.

When the app was threatened back in March they put out a push notification that required you to contact your u.s representative before you could use the app. No company should have that much sway over u.s politics especially one controlled by an adversarial foreign government.

They both fall under the umbrella of "national security", except the right wing extremism running rampant on social media directly benefits roughly half of our government, so nothing gets done about it. That's the difference. You're being taken for a ride if you think what they choose to go after isn't strictly politically motivated.

Dirty bombs abroad and domestic weapon laundering both fall under weapons issues, but they're still separate things. They are things to be handled in different manners. One does not reflect the other.
