I'm usually on the side of "It's on politicians/parties to attract voters to their side".

That being said, with the U.S. current political situation, the only real practical solution that seems to exist is for everybody to commit to a blue wave in November, and then we sort the pieces out afterwards.

I stand by that when you hit this point it shows how fucked the political system is.

When the argument is that you have to vote for getting your knuckles rapped or getting killed, I think that says a lot about your political structure.

There needs to be actual good changes to our government so statements like that have people looking at you like you're stupid for even having to consider it.

This Palestinian conundrum is a perfect example. You either vote for the crew that's fine with seeing them dead or the group that's fine with seeing them dead with an asterisk next to them that has "and a ton of other brown people too."

Obviously two party system needs to be abolished and to do that we'd probably need a non "winner take all" style of election.

Having a system where we have less of a filter of only allowing two people to run would help a lot. When ranked systems basically have the least disliked person win, you suddenly have to be far more palatable.

What is "Blue MAGA"?

I would broadly describe "blue maga" as right leaning voters, usually older who have an almost cult-like devotion to the Democratic Party, hate the left and are often just as bigoted as maga. Policy isn't as much an issue to them, as long as they win.

Not gonna repeat the vile shit I've had Democratic Party diehards tell me in person when they think I'm on their side.

For an example of blue maga, here's this clip of Biden donors responding to protestors calling for an end to the genocide in Palestine with chants of four more years, in a church. It's very Trump-like.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZabxzTP9oO0

I'm not saying anyone who votes Democratic is blue maga. I'm describing a specific type of voter.

Edit: And thanks for clarifying that the Gretchen Wieners retort was a reference to a 20 year old teen comedy movie I've seen once. Still not sure how it's relevant to the topic.

I'm not a fan of just defaulting to a team, it is always about policy policy policy. Unfortunately, lots of other people don't agree with that and vote for "someone who looks like you could have a beer with them".

In modern times tho I align with democrats in a majority of things so I don't fault others for necessarily doing that. But for example, Bob Menendez is the senator of NJ and he is a corrupt scumbag. Democrat or not fuck him, he's gone.

Sure, and I have thought about it. But it's really not worth discussing with someone that basically does the discussion board equivalent of saying "why?" After every post.

It isn't just a big talk in this case. What we have is obviously unsustainable. We can't be this partisan and function like this. Example of things is like how a lot of people seem to be more supportive of free healthcare but when it was branded as "Obamacare" it was opposed by people because it had "Obama" in it. This is one of many examples even. It's not even Obamacare that's the issue here. But rather how partisan everything is.

"Blue no matter who" isn't the problem, but it is a massive symptom of our governmental failings.

Unfortunately I just can't see it. The Republicans have been nonviable for quite some time for any sane voter, but people still vote for them as being sane isn't a guarantee at all. Yes they have serious money issues right now, but a major problem with politics in America is the unlimited funding from the top .01% that would let them bounce back the second that the donors felt that it was safe to go mask off again.

We have veered so far into the twilight zone I'm not sure it'll never be "normal" again and Democrats, as dumb as they can be, are the best chance for that. The only chance right now.

the only change that would suffice to bring this country back on track is if the whole entire GOP crashed and burned and was no longer a political party anymore, and if far-right ideology would lose any and all official political representation. the Democrat party as it exists today would be considered the center-right party like it actually is, and a new Progressive party would take up the mantle of leftist ideological representation.

but since none of that has any realistic chance of happening anytime soon, we have to work with what we got.

I did this last election. Went to a couple different sites that compiled each candidates list of bullshit, and every single republican running in Illinois at the time had at least SOME "questions" regarding the 2020 election. Every. Single. One. That isn't even touching on the rest of their dog shit. Why should I waste hours going and doing research on a republican when I know for 100% fact at this given moment, they will be unquestionably worse than any democrat politician.

Sounds like you are voting for parties over individuals, then?

I feel you btw. I'm not cynically suggesting that you need a laundry list of every individual's policies in order to figure out whether trump and the republicans are no bueno.
