It's aight. Still doesn't grasp Blood Money's genre-defining greatness, but it's fun. They go for a high replay value thing rather than a particularly long campaign, so there's like six or seven levels that happen to give a lot of different ways to kill. I think you either like it or don't. Admittedly I did not complete the entire game and ended up backlogging it, but from my experience the game never really lived up to the best Blood Money levels. Maybe that changes with the last two

There's a lot of frustrating design decisions. Dunno if they still do this but they had a thing where they would have exclusive missions. You could only play them once and if you didn't play them in the two weeks they were up you missed your chance. Extremely lame imo. Worst part is that was the only way to unlock stuff like suits, so if you want 47 to actually wear gloves, sucks to be you

Also last I played the Sniper Rifle Inside of Suitcase was absent from the game too. Finally, this is totally a personal preference, but 47 can just choke people unconscious instead of needing the anesthesia from Silent Assassin or Blood Money. I guess that's to support the open-ness of the levels but I still prefer the attention to detail to levels in previous games that made levels designed to strategically use such items instead of just knocking everyone down when they turn the corner and stuffing them with super-high-frequency wardrobes and stuff.

Finally I'm not a fan of the disguise system. Some characters are just designated with a white mark which means your disguise can't fool them, which sometimes makes sense, but is sometimes just really frustrating

I adored blood money, disliked absolution

It's a lot of Blood Money and some of Absolution. Some design ideas return from Absolution, the general open level gameplay of Blood Money returns.

I'm surprised everyone in this topic has said they prefer 2016. All of the time that I spent in the Hitman community before I backlogged the latest game more or less agreed that Blood Money is superior.

I just didn't like absolution linearity after spending so many hours on blood money

New one is not linear at all, you can even choose where you begin the level, at least upon replays

I liked it but not as much as previous games. I don't like how few levels there are. Sure, they're bigger but there's less of them and they feel kind of samey in some ways. The AI is a bit wonky and combat is weird, but its like that in every Hitman game and its fine really. I personally don't like how fast and able 47 is in this one, I always loved how in the earlier games, getting in close to take someone out was always kinda tricky and risky. The game isn't that difficult overall. It also has a pretty light hearted tone compared to some earlier games too imo, I don't know if you'd like/dislike/not care about that but there you go.

Things like having to be connected online to play at all and having certain missions only available on certain days are kinda lame but they don't ruin the game.

Still a fun game, I enjoyed the whole thing, but I'm not sure if it was worth $60 to me personally. Especially since there's more coming. And a bonus episode that you didn't get if you bought the episodes one by one, though I think the GOTY edition comes with that?

imo Blood Money > Contracts > Hitman 2016 > Silent Assassin > Absolution > Codename 47

i still think blood money had the better atmosphere, setups and overall story, but the new hitman is FAR better in terms of mechanics and gameplay design. without a doubt the largest and intricately designed maps in the series.

I'm playing it as we speak and it's okay. Nothing spectacular. Low production values. Not much attention to detail. Weirdest thing about it is I'm in the Chapter set in Morroco and everyone there has an American accent.

Yeah sometimes the game does just feel... cheap. Like, compare to Blood Money where the intercom of the opera level will state in French that the US president (IIRC) died. Or even just those newspapers at the end of each level showing your stats. Great touch there and those kinds of things feel absent from the latest entry.

I have the hitman logo as a small tattoo lol. I was really into blood money at age 18 and the logo is a modified fleur de lis, which is the symbol of my hometown. >_>
