Batman's really close...but I can't put it ahead of Mario Kart 64 due to head-to-head, and I can't move Mario Kart 64 into the top 25 on the back of its big win (even though SCII would've easily gotten my vote if it had won that one) because SCII's first loss was to S3&K, the game that Majora's Mask just beat. But I expect both MK64 and Arkham Asylum will be on my ballot next week.

(But with Chrono Trigger beating up on yet another cupcake while SMB3 picks up a quality win over Symphony of the Night, I have to leave CT in the #3 spot. It's kind of like if UNC picked up a loss in one of those early-season tournaments to, I don't know, Butler or something, but then they're still there with just the 1 loss halfway through the season. They're probably still going to be ranked ahead of Butler even if the Bulldogs are undefeated, because they're f***ing North Carolina and they're playing all of the best teams.)

If you're going to use that comparison, CT is Duke, and if Duke beats UNC, there's no way Duke gets de-throned from #1 until it loses.

Except, in this example, CT is an undefeated Duke to SMB3's one loss North Carolina, that one loss acquired when Duke beat North Carolina head-to-head. Thus, your logic is flawed. Now if the #1 game was something out of left field without a huge pedigree, like Portal, then it would work as a Butler swap.

I used Butler because I didn't really know what else to do. To be honest, CT is more like Boise State--everyone knows that they're probably good enough to win the national championship, but their conference won't allow them to do so. But that no longer works as a comparison because Boise State started last season somewhere around the top 5 and at no point were they ranked below a one-loss team.

Chrono Trigger is, was, and always will be an extremely popular powerhouse game on this board, and it's silly to try to argue otherwise.

Oh, and if Boise State beat competition the quality of CT's competition in college football and went undefeated this past season, I guarantee you they would've finished in the top 2 and gone to the national championship game last year.

I don't know why you insist on saying "Oh look Mario 3 got a quality win over SOTN let's rank it ahead of CT still even though CT already beat Mario 3, oh, and it already beat SOTN just as badly, too."

I'm not sure why you're giving Mario 3 credit over CT for something CT has already done.

Yeah. Hadn't seen that yet when I posted; I edited it out.

Anyway, I think there's a lesson to be learned from the past two weeks: I should just shut up and vote, because I rank a one-loss game one spot above the undefeated game that beat it and get a ton of crap for it due to my need to explain myself, allowing other people to put a two-loss game eight spots higher than the undefeated game that dealt it its second loss without anyone else commenting on it.

By the way, IMO votes should be weighted, the system is errored IMO by the fact that a game that has one vote in the top 10 can get in over a bunch of votes for a game that is at the number 25 spot.

Anyway, I think there's a lesson to be learned from the past two weeks: I should just shut up and vote, because I rank a one-loss game one spot above the undefeated game that beat it and get a ton of crap for it due to my need to explain myself, allowing other people to put a two-loss game eight spots higher than the undefeated game that dealt it its second loss without anyone else commenting on it.

R/B/Y hasn't looked that great for a few weeks (eh wins over TWEWY and B/W, nearly losing to SF64) - ranking it below Melee, which had a huge win a couple weeks ago, isn't a huge stretch.

...Not that I agree with putting it as low as 10 (or 17), but still.

You claim to actually pay attention to these things before you vote, and then you vote Grim Fandango 25th. Which one of those performances is top 25 worthy? Grim Fandango has faced two games worth anything this contest, and surprise surprise, it got slaughtered both times. I mean, unless there are only 25 total games with 2 losses or fewer, I can't see any reason for you to put it here whatsoever.

I'm just saying your reasoning is weak. I appreciate you taking the time to explain yourself, but I still see zero reason to vote Mario 3 over CT. If CT was struggling against games it should be beating handily, fine. But it's not.

And I'd comment on some of the other dumb rankings, but I doubt most people check back in here after voting.

You think Grim Fandango is more top 25 worthy than either of those two games.

You really need to rethink your criteria for voting if that's what you think. There should be no standard for voting in which you go, "You know, I think Grim Fandango should be on the top 25 ahead of Portal. Yeah, let's rank the game that got killed by Symphonia ahead of the game that beat it and whose only loss is to MGS1."
