Despite none of the top 25 losing last week, we still had some minor shifts in the polls. RE4's been gaining ground on MGS3 for the last few weeks, and it finally passed it up this week. Brawl's bad performance against SSFIV last week was enough for voters to drop it out, and Batman makes its poll debut in its place.

That's probably being saved for Week 30, or whenever the last big rivalry week is.
EDIT: grrr ninjas
EDIT again: Also, nice to see FFX as the second-highest RPG! Guess I'm not the only one skeptical of Paper Mario (okay and beating TP was kinda cool too).

VeryInsane posted... Aw yeah the god damn Batman's in the top 25.
Maybe this'll convince everyone to play Arkham Asylum.
This contest has indeed convinced me to play through Arkham Asylum, BioShock, and the Metal Gear Solid series at some point. I'm still waiting for that HD collection though, so in the meantime the PlayStation trio mentioned in my sig will have to do.
Arkham Asylum seems to be aesthetically closer to Resident Evil than to Metal Gear Solid, but I'd have to believe that the gameplay is closer to the latter since Arkham Asylum probably has more stealth than "scares" and "quick-time events", not to mention less "guns".

For just about no reason whatsoever, I made a list in Microsoft Word of every game in this contest categorized by number of losses (except that the bottom tier is simply "winless"). Doing some investigation on the numbers so far:
Two Losses - 26 One Loss - 21 Six Losses - 20 Seven Losses - 18 Four/Eight Losses - 16 Three Losses/Winless - 15 Five Losses - 13 Undefeated - 8
Man that's a lot of 7-2 titles!
I would like to know the lowest ranked of each in the RPI (and the highest ranked of each in the RPI aside from 7-2 and higher).

Hmm...FFT stood up pretty well to FFIX. Judging by the way MGS2 moved up the ranks severely after losing close to T&T last week, I've got to figure that FFT (8-2) should start receiving votes again after the preseason #20 had been completely ignored ever since picking up its first loss.

Wait a sec, so Mario 64 gets thrashed by Melee, and yet now it's giving Mario 3 the fight of its life?
All of a sudden, I'm getting the feeling that Chrono Trigger is going to lose this week.
Oh yeah, and this:
When Call of Duty 4 faces Battletoads, it narrowly wins. When Grand Theft Auto IV faces Battletoads, it narrowly loses. When Call of Duty 4 faces Grand Theft Auto IV, it gets absolutely murdered.
See, told you Battletoads would wreck Modern Warfare in a rematch!

The thing with MGS2 is that it nearly upset T&T right after it did upset Super Metroid. FFT doesn't have any good win like that under its belt - its best win is over Kirby 64.

Oh, man, this is hilarious. Going into this week, I was actually rooting for Chrono Trigger to beat the overrated A Link to the Past and put it back in its place, but with SMB3 actually coming closer to SM64 than I expected, I kind of want Chrono Trigger to lose so that I can continue ranking SMB3 ahead of it. After all, last week I had SMB3 at #2, Chrono Trigger close behind at #3, SM64 at #7, and ALttP at #10. I'm pretty sure that unless ALttP crushes CT, that close loss to SM64 wouldn't be enough to drop SMB3 behind it, and then I can catch even more s*** than I have been already.

I said this in an earlier topic but the games themselves are constants. They are not getting stronger or weaker at any given point during this contest. Everything rests solely in the hands of the voters

Do you enjoy flying directly into the face of what the results show?
Yes, the game itself is always constant, but the voters are the ones that determine strength. And since the voters fluctuate in preference, the games get stronger or weaker at time. So I can't agree with your statement.

So you think PW:AA would constantly beat Melee? I honestly think it was a once in a contest event that was witnessed.

I think he's trying to say that results can change depending on who votes and who doesn't on any given day, which is true.
But he also seems to be implying that people wouldn't be open to changing their votes if the match was re-held for any reason, which definitely is not true. We just saw an example of it in the OT match.

Final Fantasy Tactics (Sonic Overload Conference) (8-2) 24 (48.98%) #23 Final Fantasy IX (Smackdown Hotel Conference) (9-1) 25 (51.02%) --FFIX led most of the way, and while FFT made a late run at tying up the match, it fell just short.
Grand Theft Auto IV (Patriot Time Portals Conference) (1-9) 25 (64.10%) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Games of the Decades Conference) (1-9) 14 (35.90%) --GTAIV finally gets into the win column with a rout of CoD4.
Animal Crossing (Tanooki Blitzball Conference) (6-4) 24 (55.81%) Dark Cloud 2 (Smash Trigger Conference) (4-6) 19 (44.19%) --Animal Crossing gets the win over Dark Cloud 2 in a match that wasn't quite as close as the final score indicates.
Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals (Thousand-Year World of Sunshine Conference) (4-6) 21 (51.22%) (OT, 11-10) Secret of Mana (Brawl for Broke Conference) (5-5) 20 (48.78%) --Hey, this is the first OT match this year where I've actually got to cast the tiebreaking vote after the OT period was over! If only it had been the other match instead.
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (Smackdown Hotel Conference) (2-8) 8 (17.78%) #18 Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Nintendo Objections Conference) (8-2) 37 (82.22%) --Phoenix is used to getting the better of detectives, even if they are phantoms.
Fallout 3 (Thousand-Year World of Sunshine Conference) (7-3) 20 (47.62%) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Fanservice Conference) (5-5) 22 (52.38%) --After a rough start, KOTOR has worked its way up to a .500 record.
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (Smash Trigger Conference) (4-6) 15 (38.46%) Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Brawl for Broke Conference) (5-5) 24 (61.54%) --Brotherhood gets an easy win over the original Uncharted.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (Smackdown Hotel Conference) (8-2) 32 (64.00%) Earthbound (Games of the Decades Conference) (8-2) 18 (36.00%) --Mario RPG scores a very impressive win against Earthbound here.
Devil May Cry (Tanooki Blitzball Conference) (2-8) 25 (56.82%) God of War II (Cult RPG Galaxy Conference) (3-7) 19 (43.18%) --It seems people prefer their action stars to be cheesy rather than angry.
#4 Super Mario Bros. 3 (Tanooki Blitzball Conference) (8-2) 25 (49.02%) #7 Super Mario 64 (Nintendo Objections Conference) (9-1) 26 (50.98%) (OT, 15-11) --With this, Mario 64 has beaten both Mario 3 and Mario World by a single vote. Terrible results all around, moving on.
Mega Man X (Fanservice Conference) (6-4) 33 (73.33%) Mega Man 3 (Patriot Time Portals Conference) (4-6) 12 (26.67%) --This match was really ugly early on with MMX pushing upper 80% on MM3, but the end result is merely just plain ugly.
No More Heroes (Tanooki Blitzball Conference) (2-8) 10 (25.00%) Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride (Cult RPG Galaxy Conference) (4-6) 30 (75.00%) --DQ5 triples No More Heroes.
#14 Paper Mario (Games of the Decades Conference) (9-1) 23 (46.94%) Star Fox 64 (Twilight Barrel Galaxy Conference) (8-2) 26 (53.06%) --Star Fox 64 thoroughly dominated Paper Mario most of the way, but PM went on a 10-0 run to end the match to turn an ugly doubling into a deceptively seemingly respectable 3-vote loss. Either way, the last unbeaten Mario game goes down.
Cave Story (Twilight Barrel Galaxy Conference) (4-6) 18 (52.94%) World of Goo (Cult RPG Galaxy Conference) (2-8) 16 (47.06%) --Cave Story wins in a close, low-scoring bout.

Keep in mind, it only won 31-27 over FFVIII back in Week 2, lost to SoulCalibur II in Week 3, and only won by two votes over GoldenEye in Week 5. Then it goes from beating G/S/C by one vote to losing to R/B/Y in OT by one vote in the span of a week.
