Everyone acknowledges Chrono Trigger is the best game in the contest right now, but not everyone votes accordingly for some reason. There was a little shifting around in the top 10 in the wake of LTTP's upset loss, from which Paper Mario benefits and makes a nice jump in the poll. For the first time all season, we don't have both Phoenix Wright games in the polls, with T&T dropping out. Portal makes its return to the top 25 yet again, hoping it can stay for more than one week this time. And making its top 25 debut this week is Half-Life 2.
New matches in a bit.

I mean, is it REALLY such a problem for you that you literally can't stop yourself from talking about match results, or are you just being an inconsiderate jerk who keeps doing it despite repeated requests not to?
There was a reason I wasn't posting match updates today.

Hey, I didn't say who was winning, or even what match I was talking about!

Not here, anyway. Probably should edit that yet again...oh, wait, can't do that past one hour.
Honestly, I think the rule against posting or discussing results is stupid. It's more exciting to be able to discuss the match at all hours rather than only once a day.

Yeah, cause the biggest match of the week is happening today. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that is the match you were talking about.

In light of the ongoing match, I would like to place a formal request that Tsunami's ballots henceforth be disqualified.
It was fine when he wasn't having an effect on matches, but now that multiple votes have been swayed solely because of him, I cannot see any viable alternatives.

Right, because there have been so many votes since I posted.
There have been five votes since mine. The only game that is on a 5-0 run in that time is Fallout 3, and the "biggest match" is 3-2 since my vote, so I sincerely doubt that I've had any effect on the voters. Unless, you know, vote-changing is legal now.

He's talking about the entire match, not just since you voted. People have already stated in this topic and in that topic that they're voting CT because you're an idiot.

Ed's VGM contest prohibits people from posting vote tallies or talking about results midmatch because he doesn't want people voting based on results. There are times when there are big matches that I don't want votes to be swayed based on the vote tally. This is one of them. There are days when there aren't big matches, and I post vote tallies. Then there are days when I decide not to do so.

Yes, it is a bit ridiculous that CT could become bulletproof all because Tsunami is being a stubborn mule about his ballot. I'm fine with CT being #1, but having it become unstoppable because of one user is ridiculous.
It can also be argued that SMW's easy win over RBY was because of Tsunami as well.

If you are reading this signature, then you are wasting a great deal of your time.
you guys are a little bit too into this. CT is winning because it's more popular and posting results early is no big deal. I think all of you need to take a step back and think about this for a sec. you're all winding each other up.
anyway, CT winning is not a surprise in the slightest after it waxed Mario 3 or Mario World or whatever it was. the only game with a shot at it is RE4 right now. it'll get a backlash if it goes undefeated for much longer, but for now it's the clear #1 and has been for a month.

If I had that power, I'd use it for something truly awesome. Not that CT isn't good, because it's a very good game, the rare game that was not only innovative but manages to remain unique long after it came out. I just don't feel that it's as godly as it seems to be in this contest. But maybe I should've just voted it #1 this week so that SM64 would actually stand a chance.
Oh, right, because I have this stubborn insistence on actually not strategic voting in this contest.

Yes, I know. I tried to argue it and Leon told me I was being stupid.

Absolutely correct, well except for maybe the part about RE4 having a chance. I'm not sure. RE4 definitely looked good against Galaxy, but this being RPGFAQs, I still have doubts about how it would hold up against CT or one of the top-tier FF games.

Shame we aren't getting updates, though; kinda curious how the other ranked games are doing. Though I suppose I could just count up those matches too.

I doubt it.

It's not really the posting the results early part that bothers me. It's more the fact that I've repeatedly asked him not to do it, and he insists on doing it anyway. It's more the blatant disregard of my wishes that bothers me than the actual deed.
And yes, like swirl said, the main idea behind asking people not to do it is to prevent people from taking things into their own hands and posting results themselves. It's easier just to have a general "No posting results, period" policy.

Yeah, you've got a point; most of my favorite games aren't getting ranked at all, so I wouldn't be able to deliberately underrate them even if I wanted to.
Which I wouldn't, because I make a point of not strategic voting. I'm just too damn honorable, as hard as that may be for you to believe.

Hey, I've long since stopped posting actual results! Well, okay, there was a little bit that I did just earlier today, but that was to try to disprove what l3fty was saying.
...and okay, sure, there was that time when you were away for the week and tried to keep the contest going with swirl subbing, but he was having troubles for some reason as well so I tried to step in and be helpful. (Though I don't remember any other times that full results were posted prematurely, unless it happened in one of the earlier contests.)

1. Super Mario Galaxy 2
DAMNIT!
Yeah, that would do it. You're right. If I wanted to use that power for real good, I'd be voting SMG2 #1 for no apparent reason in order to polarize people against it.

Wait, does that mean people are going to antivote SMB3 this week as well? Because SMW over RBY was a result I could get behind; S3&K over SMB3 wouldn't be.
LinkMarioSamus posted... So the big matches this week are:

Anything else?
Donkey Kong Country 2 vs. Mega Man 2 (Day 88). Neither is ranked at the moment, but both are in the "also receiving votes" category, so I guess that's still kind of important-ish. SMB3-S3&K (Day 86) might also be kind of interesting, although I figure Mario probably has the advantage there.

Mario 64's RPI is high enough that a loss won't hurt it too badly. LTTP dropped from 5th to 10th after losing to Paper Mario, and the RPI will look more favorably upon losing to CT than to Paper Mario.

It's nice to see a game that's not Nintendo/Square/Capcom in the Top 25, but someone give me a good reason HL2 should be there.... it couldn't beat TTYD nor Prime, its two strongest opponents. It "only" has 2 losses, at least.

"Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. So...what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think."
I suppose this is the first example of the season that explains why I would LOVE to see low-ranked weekly votes (e.g. 25th) weighted a bit more heavily.... either that or find a way to reduce the impact of outliers.

HL2 is one of those games that is on there because a lot of #20-25 type games have been losing lately. As soon as a game off the ballot wins a big match, it'll push HL2 off.
It's rather weird that HL2 is ahead of both the games it lost to in the x-stats despite getting 43% on TTYD and 38% on Prime.
In fact, almost everytime I see HL2 and Prime so close together in the RPI (which stands for what again? Relative Progress Index or something?), I keep thinking "we need those two to face off against each other", before remember that they already did and Prime walked away with 62% of the vote. Of course, Prime is taking a lot of crap in the RPI now thanks to its loss to Wind Waker, which is looking worse and worse every week.
