...that digital games would be so much cheaper?
A hard copy of Call of Duty: Ghosts is $3 at Gamestop right now and I just checked XBL and it's $39.99!?!?!? Who the f*** is paying for digital these days anyway? --- "Best read of the game goes to se7en. Who correctly surmised this town is full of idiots." - Corrik Se7en ... Copied to Clipboard!

Because when the Casual Revolution of 2007 kicked off, the gaming community thought that the cheaper costs due to lack of logistics, shipping, physical labor and goods, etc would cause companies to lower prices. But a day 1 digital release is the same price as the respective day 1 physical release. Its more that people are so used to paying the $50 - $60 for a brand new game, they continue to do that no matter how its distributed.

I wish I didn't have to worry about finances and could waste cash so frivolously. I don't know how people can consciously do it honestly. Nearly 80% of the digital games that I'm looking up are way more expensive than anything in my local game stores. The only thing that I think is even worth it are the games that are exclusive to digital but oddly enough even those are on average cheaper than physical releases lately. --- "Best read of the game goes to se7en. Unsurprisingly, a used copy is still going to cost less than a digital copy.

It's because of convenience and snap decision making. If you're considering getting a game, many people would be willing to pay a small premium if it meant not going out to a nearby game store. The next point is regarding self control and spontaneous purchases. For some consumers, once they think they want something, if it's already at their fingertips then they won't shop around for a lower price.
And looking at it from the perspective of a distributor, physical stores have an incentive to go through their inventory, even if it means discounting some products. Digital distributors don't have that inventory issue and thus don't need to cycle. --- ~Peaf~ ... Copied to Clipboard!

Its strange but I think explainable. I think its because a game that has a physical and digital release get viewed by people still a certain way, allowing companies to charge the 50/60. A digital only release gets viewed differently (frequently because digital only releases are from smaller companies for one reason), thus gets the lower price tag. --- Casual Revolution 2007 - 2016 ... Edit: Interesting though that the 1st contest took a year and the 2nd one took 2 years. 2nd Edit: It's a good thing I decided that 3 will be the last one. I pretty much don't buy anything old digitally unless it's on sale. But then again I don't get many AAA games anymore and the ones I do I tend to get fairly new.

It's not really a perception thing. Those games don't have as big of a budget in the first place, so of course they're going to both charge less and not go through process of a physical release. --- "One toot on this whistle will take you to a far away land." -Toad, SMB3 ...
