I dunno. Compare the architecture and you'll see that a lot of things happened in those 1000 years...

Well, when civilization keeps getting destroyed and rebuilt, it's hard to hold onto or create technological advances, I'd imagine.

Not in terms of overall inventions. The Roman era was actually more advanced than 1000 years later

Definitely in terms of weapons technology, though. And I'm not sure I agree that the Roman era was more advanced.

That's arguable. But the Roman era was certainly more advanced than the Dark Ages. I mean, it's in the name.

Keep in mind that was from one cataclysmic event to another. God knows where the technology would be if the dragons stopped waking to bring around another extinction level event.

The name is misleading, because IIRC when the name was made up a lot wasn't known about the Dark Ages? Haven't historians learned since then that they weren't so dark after all?

Ever since the printing press there has been a technology boom, but it really started taking hold around the turn of the last century. It's just that it was a hyperbolic turn so by the 90s, technology was increasing at a very rapid pace.

You think that's bad, wait until you read the Silmarillion and compare it to the LotR trilogy.

Almost 10,000 years of technological stagnation. No, actually, getting worse if we are to believe some dwarves' accounts that their own technology actually regressed, and they're the most technologically-minded race out of all of them.

To be fair, the elves were pretty content with their technology. And the source of it was running out.

Look at the Zelda franchise. Supposedly hundreds of thousands of years take place between one end of the timeline to the other (Breath of the Wild being the latest with a whopping 10,100+ years from the last game) and actual technology hasn't really advanced that much. The only thing that's been constant was Sheikah tech which was always advanced.

Yeah, Europe didn't devolve technologically, so much as it slowed due to the socio-economic dislocation that resulted from the gradual decay and then collapse of central authority.
And when I say "Europe", I more mean "Western Europe", because the Byzantine Empire was doing fine, for the most part.

It's even worse in regards to FE. The original games (Shadow Dragon, Gaiden/Shadows of Valentia, and Mystery of the Emblem) take place thousands of years after the Jugdral games (Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776), and technology still didn't improve much since then.

Doesn't KOTOR take place like 20k years before A New Hope? And yet even then they had lightsabers and blasters and even the fashion/armor looks pretty much the same.

Well, the AW games didn't sell too well. In fact, the most recent game, Days of Ruin/Dark Conflict, wasn't even released in Japan until a few years ago as a Club Nintendo reward.

And as we know, FE was also almost shelved due to declining sales. Awakening sold enough to resuscitate the series, and here we are now, with FE now considered one of Nintendo's flagship IPs. Sadly, AW just wasn't so lucky.
