I want 5 new films for my collection. They should be good and rewatchable, obviously, but I want a mix of mainstream and indie films. I dunno. Here are some ideas.

The Dawns Are Quiet Here
VHS
The Secret World of Arietty
Kiki's Delivery Service
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
9 Songs
Forget me Knot
Tales From The Crypt
The Prince of Darkness
Sweet Movie

Some of these could be very hard to get. I just saw TDAQH on amazon, but it was like £30 or something. I have no idea where to get Sweet Movie.

I remember seeing Tremors many years ago, and thinking it was pretty good. I heard A Scanner Darkly was bad, though.

Black Swan was quite good, but I can't believe how overrated it was. People acted like it was great. I also don't understand why people like Donnie Darko so much, it was pretentious and not much was explained in it.

Black Swan was great.
With Donnie Darko, watch the directors cut with a friend or so and (optionally but recommended) read the book related to the movie. A lot of the joy for me comes from just discussing it, theorizing, and giving meaning to it all.
Plus at it's core it's just about the fear of dying alone which who can't relate?

Paths of Glory was pretty good. I wish the general had actually fired upon those soldiers, though, that would've been epic lulz.

Primer

Primer was pretty bad, which makes sense for a film by Shane Curruth.

VHS
The Secret World of Arietty
The Prince of Darkness

These are probably my 3 favourites to get. I'm not sure though. And I want at least 2 really indie films as well.

what a weird statement of opinion. the guy's only done 2 films. haven't seen the other one, but Primer is almost universally positively reviewed/received.

Upstream Color is decent. I don't think either of them are amazing but they're both interesting enough to hold your attention and are both probably worth a rewatch to understand everything.

Upstream Colour was arty and intellectual, which is good, but fairly boring to watch. I think it was probably too difficult to understand, as well.

Honestly I don't remember Upstream Colour as well as I do Primer. The main thing I remember from it is Shane Carruth has fantastic dress sense and I want all of his clothes.
