And with sports specifically, shit like YouTube and clips online in general have made shows like SportsCenter obsolete. You no longer need to watch highlight shows when anyone can access any highlight at any time on their phone. They then doubled down on the personalities over authenticity due to the popularity of First Take, specifically circa Tebow era when Skip went full on troll mode. And people eventually got tired of straight characters all the time.
