Madden Draft Grades
To start off, take these with a grain of salt. Madden gives all AI teams an "A" without fail. These are not indicators of the ratings of your rookies nor any sort of predictor of future success. That being said, these are still fun to look at. These are in order of grade and team name. A- Bears Bills Browns 49ers Jaguars Lions Wildcats B+ Dolphins Packers Patriots B- Chiefs Pumpkins Ravens Steelers Titans C+ Giants C- Panthers D Cowboys --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy https://imgur.com/VfpY7tg ... Along with draft grades, Madden mentions a team's first pick along with what they deem to be their best pick. More often than not, they are the same player, but sometimes they are different. Much like with draft grades, take these with a grain of salt. Having a different player mentioned as your first than your best does not mean the former's overall rating was worse or anything of that nature. Here are those players:
Bills' First - CB Desmond Trufant Bills' Best - QB Derek Carr Chiefs' First - SS Andrew Sendejo Chiefs' Best - CB David Amerson Falcons' First - OLB Pernell McPhee Falcons' Best - HB Alfred Morris 49ers' First - G Trai Turner 49ers' Best - QB Bryce Rivers Giants' First - G David Decastro Giants' Best - QB Landry Jones Jets' First - C Maurkice Pouncey Jets' Best - QB Mike Glennon Panthers' First - G Danny Watkins Panthers' Best - QB Ernie Smith Raiders' First - MLB Lavonte David Raiders' Best - QB Blake Bortles Wildcats' First - DE Robert Quinn Wildcats' Best - DT Tyson Alualu --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy https://imgur.com/VfpY7tg ... Signing Draft Picks
Quite a few teams have done it already, but now's the time to get those draftees' signatures and have them suit up for your squad. It is essentially just like signing your own free agents, but you don't have to worry about holdouts/franchise tags, and you typically have far fewer players to sign. There are a few things you need to keep in mind. One, you will not know the overall ratings until they are signed. That is an in-game mechanic and not something by my design. Two, the desired deals for each player, in terms of length, is based on where they were taken. It is as follows: Top 5 - Six years 6-10 - Five years 11-32 - Four years 2nd-4th rounds - Three years (will be eligible for RFA) 5th-7th rounds - One year Once again, you do not have to offer them their exact deals and can change their length, but I advise you to sign them to the length that they ask for because if you change the length, they might ask for considerably more money. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy https://imgur.com/VfpY7tg ... The deadline to sign rookies will be noon ET on Thursday, May 31st. Should you idle, I will sign all of your rookies to the deals that they are asking. If you happen to have roster space issues precluding me from doing so, I will prioritize players that fill roster holes then sign players in ascending order from when they were taken in the draft until I hit the roster limit.
I will make myself available to do live draft pick signings, but we will have to schedule in advance. You may notice that the prices the rookies are asking for are all over the place. When this game came out, the rookie wage scale wasn't in effect. The rookies' asking price is based on a combination of position, skill (specifics are unknown until signed), and maybe even when they were taken in the draft (if so, it has a minor effect). I think that covers everything. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy https://imgur.com/VfpY7tg ... Copied to Clipboard!

From the reveals so far, it seems that most first rounders are slightly higher than normal. After that it seems similar to normal but with a less pronounced drop off (which could be more to do with the positions than anything else)
That being said I don't typically pay too much attention to low rounders so it's entirely possible it's normal for them to be like 75s instead of 70s. I just know that I was surprised all the o-line men taken in the 5th are on a par with the ones taken in the 3rd ... Copied to Clipboard!

Favorite Draft Picks in Each Round
It's self-explanatory, but how I determine my choices is not. For the most part, I look for in the early rounds for perfect team fits based on historical production, a visible succession plan to starting job (or immediate starter), players who might be the missing piece to the puzzle, and selections that just make me think, "That guy's going to have a long, productive career here." For later rounds, I look for players who most likely have a chance of sticking around for a long-ish career for a myriad of reasons. Full Disclosure: My interests lie in the defensive side of the ball, so I'm more biased towards defenders. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy https://imgur.com/VfpY7tg ... First Round
Redskins WR Julio Jones (1st overall) - Regardless of how the rest of the offseason plays out or the team's rookie class ratings, the selection of Jones might have taken the Redskins out of the gutter to a possible worst-to-first scenario. Once Randy Moss retired, this team, along with the Broncos, have usually trotted out the saddest group of WRs. Coupled with the trade with the Bills, the once impossible-looking dream of having formidable pass catchers was realized in less than 24 hours when they made their selection at the top of the 2014 NFL Draft. That defense has stayed stout, the starting OL is as good as anybody's, and the aging HB Kevin Jones still gets the job done, so why not the Redskins for NFC East champs, and why not Julio Jones for Offensive Rookie of the Year? Browns HB Mark Ingram (16th overall) - This franchise has had just one HB that I would say was great for them, Rudi Johnson (recently retired as a Viking). Unfortunately, War decided after the inaugural season that he was going to pass 80% of the time (then Browns QB Aaron Rodgers led the league in passing for what seemed to be three or four seasons straight). More humiliating for Johnson was that the Browns next GM, stuntman, decided to bench Johnson for the younger Carl Stewart, and Johnson was never the full-time starter after S5, which was coincidentally Rodgers' final season as a Brown. Since then, Stewart and former Broncos 1st rounder LenDale White could not get it done, and the Browns offense crumbled without Johnson or Rodgers despite still having Top 5 WR Steve Smith. With the Browns resetting at the HB position (Roberts and Starks have 0 career carries despite being on the Browns for five combined seasons) and the interior OL, I think this fresh start might equate to the Browns having their first true franchise back. Bengals DT Michael Brockers (27th overall) - After the defense was gutted from retirements in the later yazzy years, the Bengals D had a resurgent year carrying an inconsistent offense to the playoffs and a playoff win. If there's one weak link, it is the severely aging DT corps whose starters are 35 and 36 years old. I don't know if Brockers is going to start, but he's in as ideal of a situation as he could find himself in for both the present and future. Honorable Mentions: Packers DE Everson Griffen (7th overall) Raiders MLB Lavonte David (12th overall) Buccaneers QB Teddy Bridgewater (17th overall) --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy https://imgur.com/VfpY7tg ... Second Round
Bears MLB Chris Borland (34th overall) - 35, 30, 30, 29. Those are the ages of their top four LBs, none of whom are higher than 85. It seems inevitable that Borland will either be the successor to Morgan at MLB or start at retired OLB Rocky Calmus' old spot. In a division where the 2/3 of opposing offenses are nothing to write home about (sorry Nee and Tangicide), Borland has an excellent chance to make his mark early that will hopefully lead to a long, productive career as a Bear. 49ers FS Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (36th overall) - A long time ago (S3 to be exact), Scare let the Colts sign DT Darnell Dockett in RFA and received their 1st and 3rd round picks. He had back-to-back picks at 17 and 18, and I used those picks to form what I was hoping to be a formidable safety tandem in FS Will Herring and SS Bernard Pollard. The second FS taken in that draft was Tom Zbikowski of the Broncos (ouch). Herring has started 107 out of a possible 112 games, and has done an admirable if unspectacular job. However, it might be time for a change. For a team that finished with the #4 defense in the league, Clinton-Dix is in a great spot to either develop behind Herring or immediately start. Patriots WR Julian Edelman (51st overall) - It sounds to me that Jukkie might be shifting his offensive philosophy after trading away next season's first round pick to grab pocket passer Case Keenum. Moving from a scrambling QB to a pocket passer (whenever that may be) might lead to a less dynamic offense, but the passing yards tend to go up. That might be good news for not just former Top 10 pick WR Lance Leggett, but their second selection in the draft in Edelman. After dumping WR Cameron Colvin to the Vikings after he started 80 straight games for them, the #2 spot is now wide open for incumbents Matt Caddell, Eddie Royal, and the newcomer. Knowing Jukkie though, it is not a matter of if but when Edelman becomes the starter. Honorable Mentions Raiders QB Blake Bortles (44th overall) Giants DT Sione Fua (55th overall) Vikings HB Theo Riddick (57th overall) --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy https://imgur.com/VfpY7tg ... KCF0107 05/22/18 2:59:51 AM #32: |
Third Round
Bengals C Travis Frederick (65th overall) - The Bengals gave up former #2 overall pick SS Patrick Chung to move up to this pick, but as hard as it is for someone to admit a mistake (I know it is an AI, but work with me here!), this pick could totally redeem the franchise. Longtime Bengal Shaun O'Hara is 37 and has played just 21 of 48 games the past three seasons. He is likely finished after this season. With a great rushing attack and the starting QB situation in limbo, the Bengals might be leaning on HB Erik Haw and that interior OL. Along with O'Hara, RG Rex Hadnot has also suffered his fair share of injuries. The Bengals might be leaning on Frederick too. Lightning SS Deone Bucannon (67th overall) - former SS Kenoy Kennedy was a quietly great defender for them, and was one of the major contributors in the seasons they sneakily had Top 10 defenses. After retiring though after S8 I think, nobody Ravens TE Eric Ebron (74th overall) - As the seasons go by, I am more and more convinced that TE development might be the most luck-based out of any position. Pioneers TE Leonard Pope hasn't reached the 600 yard mark in a season before, has the 7th-lowest blocking ratings for a TE, and he's a 91 and considered an NFL Icon by Madden. Packers TE Greg Olsen was drafted as low-mid 80s, and through six seasons and 88 starts, he is only up to 87. Jets TE Tim Day hasn't started since his rookie season, and yet he's just two points below 89 game starter Tate Casey of the Steelers. Despite all of this, I like Ebron's chances, and that's just because of a feeling. It isn't like I can use recently-acquired QB Big Ben as the reason why because current 49ers starting TE Martellus Bennett hasn't done anything in San Francisco, and former 49er TE Pope has spent most of his career with the Pioneers franchise and seen his best years there. Fourth Round
Wildcats OLB Avery Williamson (114th overall) - Nobody is replacing Marcus Washington. Let's get that out of the way now. Somebody though has to take his spot. Given the Wildcats' financial woes, it will likely have to be draft picks Isaac Barnes or Williams. Now the defense is bad, but the Wildcats used their first four draft picks on their front seven, so you have to assume it will improve at least a tiny bit. That gives me a sliver of hope that whoever wins out the battle between Barnes and Williams can develop into a starting calibur defender even if he has to go through some growing pains of being in a division with the Rams and 49ers. Jaguars SS Kenny Vaccaro (116th overall) - If you asked me who the best player in B8NFLL history is, Jags SS Michael Lewis is on a short list of candidates. Last season saw his streak of six straight Pro Bowls and three straight DB of the Year awards snap, but most teams would still kill for his production (90 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 INT, 4 FFs+FRs). At 33, his career is coming to a close though, and the next man up would seem to be Vaccaro. Time will tell if it was the system or Lewis himself that made him into the player he is, but I will be betting on him. Wildcats C Bryan Stork (125th overall) - This has nothing to do with Stork being listed as amazing in all categories in the scouting report. In my experience, there's no reason to expect that will correlate into a rating much higher than you would expect for a late 4th rounder. I put him here because I expect that OL to see significant changes in the coming years with LG Mike Wahle and RT Rex Tucker's looming retirements and LT D'Brick Ferguson and C Trevor Hutton's expiring contracts. This was a very dynamic offense with Vick in it and a totally different one when he was injured. Now that he's a free agent, it's hard to gauge how this might affect Stork's development, but I will put his odds just a little higher than two other Cs I nearly put in place of him. Honorable Mentions Browns C Mike Pouncey (102nd overall) 49ers C Corey Linsley (118th overall) Vikings DT Sealver Siliga (121st overall) --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy https://imgur.com/VfpY7tg ... Fifth Round
Bengals WR Chris Hogan (129th overall) - Using the other pick they received in the Patrick Chung trade, the Bengals used it on the player that is currently penciled in as their slot receiver and maybe even KR/PR. This is the fifth round, so you won't find many players put in as good of a position as that off the bat. Lightning HB Kenjon Barner (136th overall) - I remember talking to Shattered and saying that only two players had a lower-rated #1 returner than the Steelers. One of those teams was the Lightning. I don't know what Barner's return rating will be, but he was labeled as having great return ability. It has to be leaps and bounds ahead of their current leader, WR Antonio Brown at 46! He likely won't make much of an impact in the ground game, but I wasn't totally enamored with the rest of this round's selections to go in another direction. Panthers MLB Rob Thomas (137th overall) - Tied for the second-highest difference between #1 and 2 at a position and seemingly getting better with age, Panthers incumbent MLB Jonathan Vilma at just 32 years old seems like he still has five seasons left in him. That might seem strange then that I might have a player who would likely be the starter at 28 years old in this scenario. That being said, this was the #3 defense from a year ago, and if Vilma goes down (he's only missed 8 games in his career), Thomas could take off despite a relatively weak LB corps surrounding him. Honorable Mentions Falcons OT Jordan Mills (149th overall) Raiders C Wesley Johnson (152nd overall) Redskins OLB Donald Spielman (155th overall) --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy https://imgur.com/VfpY7tg ... Sixth Round
Packers HB Dri Archer (167th overall) - Panthers have a low-rated, inefficient HB named Dion Foster who vultures TDs (6 in his first two seasons) thanks to running behind injury-prone HBs. Archer might be able to follow in Foster's footsteps, maybe to the chagrin of Tangicide. Starter HB Carnell Williams might be the most important player on that Packer offense, but he's usually good to miss a couple games a season. Backup Ben Slater missed all of last season due to the injury. If there's a player to grab a few TDs with a 3.0 YPC, it might be Archer. Buccaneers MLB Sam Krause (177th overall) - While still racking up those tackles, the playmaking days of incumbent Andra Davis are over. He's also 35, so his career will almost certainly end after this campaign. The backup is a 75 and 32. I'd say that while not having a great chance, Krause at least has an okay chance of seeing significant snaps in his future if he sticks with the Bucs. Patriots DT Chris Watters (179th overall) - As the Pats are expected to have cap issues for the foreseeable future, Waters has instantly become the backup DT in an excellent DL. The man directly in front of him is 36 years old. The dude has a chance to make something of himself, and he has the supporting cast to help him get there. Honorable Mentions Lions SS Terrell Woods (175th overall) Bengals OT Dusty Swain (187th overall) Cowboys WR Josh Huff (191st overall) --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy https://imgur.com/VfpY7tg ... Seventh Round
Browns P Jacob Schum (198th overall) - VI strikes me a more patient and forgiving GM than most of us. The very fact that he signed a backup punter leads me to believe there is an excellent chance that once the 40 year old Kyle Richardson inevitably retires this next offseason, Schum will be re-signed and given the chance to start. Redskins SS Jermaine O'Leske (193rd overall) Pioneers SS Charles Ogden (220th overall) - These are both up here for the same reason, so I might as well combine their write up. No player benefits from special teams more than the backup SS. If you wonder why they have surprisingly higher statistics than most backups and on the rare occasion accumulate a higher tackle total than the man they back up, that is why. Both O'Leske and Ogden, barring additional transactions by the Redskins and Pioneers respectively, will be the #2 guys. There's nothing more to it than that. Honorable Mentions Lightning TE Crockett Gillmore (195th overall) Hawks DE Jorge Millen (206th overall) Cowboys FS Shelton Kelly (223rd overall) --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy https://imgur.com/VfpY7tg ... Favorite Three Draft Classes
Cincinnati Bengals: DT Michael Brockers (27) CB Dee Milliner (59) C Travis Frederick (65) SS Maurice Alexander (91) TE Jordan Cameron (123) WR Chris Hogan (129) RT Dusty Swain (187) RG Mike Claiborne (219) All eight of the Bengals picks I expect to be future starters for their team or major contributors off the bench. While teams draft just try to fill holes and such (Bengals will still have two if they sign everyone), this looks like my kind of draft haul in thinking ahead and playing the long game. They already had 4 DTs, 2 Cs, 2 TEs, and 6 CBs. Did that deter them from picking those positions? No! DT Michael Brockers and CB Dee Milliner could start Week 1. C Travis Frederick might see himself start Week 1 due to injuries, and is a good bet to see significant snaps regardless. TE Jordan Cameron could very well be the starter next season after L.J. Smith retires. The rest at this moment have significant, defined roles unless their ratings are far, far worse than what their positional peers taken around them were bestowed. Mexico City Browns HB Mike Ingram (16) RG Kevin Zeitler (29) RG Brandon Brooks (38) C Mike Pouncey (102) WR Travis Benjamin (134) LG Scott Gamble (166) P Jacob Schum (198) The Browns could not run the ball, and their interior OL completely collapsed last season, including suffering two career-ending injuries. Entering the draft, the Browns had no 80+ HBs on their roster, and just two combined Gs + Cs. While time will tell, the Browns made a seemingly excellent decision trading back from #6 to acquire the #16 and 29 picks. They used those two picks plus their next two on a HB (#2 overall prospect taken at #16) and three interior OL. The rest of their picks went to future slot receiver and possible KR/PR Travis Benjamin, another G to add to the pile, and possibly their punter of the future. Not everything will work out as planned because the RNG can be a cruel mistress, but this was one of the more flawless draft executions I've seen. San Francisco 49ers LG Trai Turner (10) FS Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (36) QB Bryce Rivers (48) LOLB Ryan Shazier (58) WR Tavon Austin (80) MLB Zach Orr (86) CB Tony Stevens (112) C Corey Linsley (118) RT Isaac Nixon (144) MLB Dale Bonds (157) Much like the Ravens last season, I love seeing large draft hauls with a wide variety of picks. The 49ers took 1 QB, 1 WR, 1 OT, 1 G, 1 C, 2 MLB, 1 OLB, 1 CB, 1 FS. As many as four have the opportunity to come out as starters after the preseason, and several others will be the top backup. Unlike the somewhat similar mini-blowup that the Ravens did last season to get them all those picks and opportunities for said picks, the 49ers have a better infrastructure in place to expect great things out of their team this season should Scare make the right moves and adjustments from this point forward. Always great reads, as usual.
I am actually surprised none of my picks ended up there since they were all low round picks, filled holes and at least 2 of the 4 likely see a decent amount of playing time and will be on the team long term. And that ends the final team with their starting interior OL intact from the inaugural season. That leaves the Rams as the only team with 4/5 of their starting OL intact. The fifth member, G Adrian Klemm, is still in the league.

I am currently writing a Steelers preseason review going over my position turnover and a little bit of performance/expectations. So far I've gotten through my offense
I'll post it when finished and expect nobody to read it because it's lengthy as hell but I would recommend other people do the same for their teams because I've enjoyed writing it. So I assume others will enjoy doing it for their teams too I would actually do it for other teams too but I don't know enough about their player turnover and stats, etc to do it ...
