Like, when you first bought the game, you picked out the characters you would try out first that you were expecting to be your potential mains... but then later on, you try another character that you didn't expect to enjoy so much, and they eventually become one of your mains. Stuff like that. Previously unannounced characters being added through DLC and becoming your main post-launch aren't exactly what I have in mind for this topic, but if you'd like, you can mention those cases as well.

I've had a couple of times where this happened to me, but I'll wait to see some of your answers first (or if this topic needs bumped back to the first page) to say mine.

Seung Mina. Siegfried was who I intended but picking Seung Mina at random once led me to really liking her.

Nitroplus Blasterz I bought for the novelty of playing as Super Sonico in a fighting game, barely knew about the cast before starting it and ended up with Ethica instead

Nice, some interesting choices in here. Time to say mine.

1) Ezio Auditore in Soul Calibur 5. As a former Talim main who was sad she didn't return for 5, I fully expected to just main one of my previous secondaries (either Pyrrha Omega, who inherited most of Sophitia/Cassandra's style in 5, or Raphael) but then I tried out Ezio. I had never (and still haven't) played an Assassin's Creed game to know who he was before, but his fighting style was so fun to use that I coulldn't put him down. Raphael and Pyrrha Omega ended up as my 2 and 3 as I expected, but Ezio was my #1 main.

2) Platinum The Trinity and Gordeau in Blazblue Cross Tag Battle. I bought the game due to the RWBY crossover and had never played any of the other series that it was crossing over. I had some idea of who the Blazblue cast were (from the anime adaptation and other stuff online) so I had initially pinpointed Makoto and Nu-13 to try out along with the RWBY characters. Then I got my ass kicked by a Platinum online, saw how fun her play style looked, and saw that her finishing move was a tribute to my favorite magical girl of all time. At that point I just had to try her out, and I ended up loving every second of it. I also picked up Gordeau (whom I knew absolutely nothing about before this game) just because it meant I could team him with Ruby for double scythe users, and he turned out to be pretty fun too. Platinum, Ruby, and Gordeau are my top 3 now.

3) Corrin in Super Smash Bros 4. I was hoping for a Fire Emblem Fates rep in the DLC, but would have greatly preferred Azura. I was initially disappointed at the reveal, but the moveset that he/she used looked cool enough for me to try him/her out, and it turned out that I was amazing with Corrin and stuck with him/her ever since.

Yeah, I never thought I'd be using Tron or Morrigan in Marvel 3. Yet, even in Ultimate, I couldn't drop them.
