DH is cool if you just wanna see more points I guess

No DH is a lot more interesting to watch though imo

Also pitcher actually hitting successfully out of nowhere is hype as hell

I feel like it should be either no DH, or every position should be eligible to be replaced by a DH

But keep the 25-man roster to make it strategic

I've suggested the idea of a DF (Designated Fielder) before on Discord, which would be a sneaky way of getting a DH in the NL without eliminating the pitcher hitting. It would also preserve double switches, but I guess fans of NL teams care far less about double switching than preserving the tradition of the pitcher hitting. The DF rule would be exclusive to the NL and would only be used by AL teams at an NL ballpark.

The idea behind the DF is that both teams can choose one DF to play the field in place of one hitter in their line-up. The one exception is the pitcher spot, as you can't have someone field for the pitcher while he pitches. The manager of the team would have to declare a DF before the start of the game, or he would forfeit the right to use a DF for that game.

One major problem with the DF rule is that you would be starting the game with a 4-man bench if you have to use a bench player as a DF, and you'd still have the pitcher batting meaning you'll need to use pinch hitters during the course of the game. This will be a problem in games where the starting pitcher is taken out early or the game goes extra innings. So you run the risk of depleting your bench in any game where a DF is used. This can be solved by having a 26-man roster, where the 26th man would be an extra bench player for NL teams.

I like how it is now.

The DH is more practical, but the lack of the DH also adds an extra layer of strategy that I enjoy. Since I watch both the Yankees and the Mets, I get to see it both ways.

Screw the DH.

Having to make pinch hitting decisions with regard to the pitching slot at important junctures in close games adds a level of strategy to national league play that the AL simply lacks.

The counter to this is that its easier for NL teams to decide when to pull their starters (oh hes up to bat I guess hes done for the day) as opposed to the AL who has to decide after every batter if thats the last one

Well it's just another factor to consider in whether to take the pitcher out or not. I'd argue it doesn't make it easier or more difficult in general, just that it weights the likelihood of taking a guy out at various times differently.
