Nominate Lu Bu from Dynasty Warriors.

Fans of the series have been slighted throughout the contests' history as it's characters were barred due to their historical origins. When the rules got laxed for the 2013 contest, Dynasty Warriors fans rejoiced and got arguably the series most popular character, Lu Bu, into the contest. However, and I still think this was intentional by the contest organizers, Lu Bu was placed in a 3-way battle with one of the only other characters that could sff him.

It's time for a redemption run, hopefully 1v1 format, to see how far the mighty Lu Bu can go.

Nominate Nightmare from Soulcalibur

Nightmare is basically the face of the series, and is the only SoulCalibur character to have gotten in the contest consistently in the past. More recent contests have required a bit more rallying to get him in, as the series has been on hiatus for awhile, though even then he's always been above fodder in contest strength. SoulCalibur VI comes out in October and is a reboot, which means there will be a lot of focus on Nightmare when he was at his most popular (SC1 and SC2 timeline), so this seems like the perfect timing, as the series will be getting a renewed interest and hype, and it will be interesting to see what that does to Nightmare's contest power.

Octodad

The single most relatable character in gaming. Just a great man and an incredible father doing his best to fit in with a world that wants to judge and outcast him. He'd do anything for his family and is kind to everyone around him. He has to try harder to get by than everyone around him but not once has that ever happened.

He's the embodiment of the struggles we all face in our daily lives and serves as an inspiration to us all to be the best people we can possibly be.

What more could you want from a protagonist than that?

Represents mental health/suicide on an extremely deep and impactful level, a rarity for video games. Plus she is a sweetheart and all around great character.
