It's literally because negative news gets more views and engagement, in part because it encourages shitposting in the comments section.

I purposely avoid videos like that. Whenever they pop up in my yt recs I'm always like nope disinterested plz go away. Too much negativity in the world :(

There's a fair bit of conversation about this, though I can't find a particular name for the theory. Supposedly connected to this is another hypothesis that mentally healthier societies are less likely to dwell on negative experiences over positive ones than those with more issues.
