I have insurance.

They did a breathing treatment, an EKG(on a cart), and checked my blood pressure.

Literally cost me $950

What in the actual fuck. Fuck healthcare in the US. holy shit

I'm in a similar boat except with more money, I got sick a few months back and had to get surgery, between the doctor visits and then the hospital bill I still owed like nearly $7k after insurance. Fucking nuts. The hospital was threatening me with collections and shit and I dont even qualify for any reductions or assistance because I make 'too much' (like $30k a year lmao :/) and they weren't happy with me paying them what I could on a payment plan. Never mind that I have to pay rent, car insurance, etc. Fucking crazy man. I'm considering taking a hardship loan from my 401k to alleviate some of this debt because my entire paycheck every week is just going to paying off debts rn because I had to get my car repaired right within the same time frame too

Im in a very similar financial situation. I make around 30k. But between my mortgage, car payment, heath car and home insurance, credit card, Home Depot card, etc..... I might have $100 left over a month lmfao

I learned from a mortgage lender that most lenders now dont even factor medical debt into their decision when determining ones creditworthiness. Fucking crazy.

They also said that if someone from collections calls you about the debt, dont say anything about starting a new payment plan etc. to pay it off because it makes the debt new and will affect your credit. After a certain point, medical debt doesnt even fuck with your credit.

Its nuts that mortgage lending as an entire industry recognizes how ridiculous medical debt is.

Americans have it pretty rough tbh for a first world nation.

Terrible health care (relatively), extreme amount of gun violence, insane real estate prices considering the shoddy quality of the actual construction. The only real positive is fairly cheap gas.

I used to have panic attacks a long time ago and they would get me out of no where. I would be lying on the beach relaxing when an attack came, or just grocery shopping, watching TV, etc. Initially I thought I had heart problems because my chest would hurt out of no where and also did an EKG that was normal. In my case I discovered it was due to a new medication I started. Once I quit it, they stopped. But I believe its possible that anxiety attacks can occur whenever.

Has there been anything stressing you lately?

What we need is the government to stop interfering in everything. Just like with the cost of schooling everything is so high because it's subsidized. That doesn't mean it's subsidized for everyone. But somebody always gets the shaft. I do understand things like medicine costing money. It takes someone's time and labor to produce. But things like x-rays or CT scans or things that require machines that are made already costing a lot is crazy.

Do you get a tax subsidy?

Maybe the ACA has gotten this inflated but when i was getting tax subsidized for Obamacare my $1000 deductible insurance was like $420 but I got a $400 subsidy from the IRS so it was $20 a month.

If you're strictly buying insurance from the marketplace with no job yeah you can blame Obama for your ridiculous deductible. If you make like $10,600 a year they basically give you insurance via IRS, if you make less you're screwed.

But who is 'making it' on $11k a year? Nobody that is living by themselves.

Yeah that's the worst. The random bills that come a week, then two weeks, then a month later. They need to get their shit together.

I have a really tough time trusting doctors after a big goose chase convinced me they care more about making money with the latest big pharma fads, than actually helping people.

God damn I'm lucky. I am single, but i pay like 30 bucks a month for $1000 deductible on major medical (an EKG would count toward that) and 25 dollar doctor visits. $15 prescriptions.

If I had a kid or wife it is like $300 more a month but still isn't bad.

I dont get why some employers have such shit insurance.

It's all relative. Instead of making 30k a year in America you can make 50k a year in Canada and give 20k a year in taxes to the government then claim your doctors visit was "free".

Its just a forced payment plan whether you use it or not. Almost all medications are still out if pocket unless your employer has benefits. If they do, you still have to write off the benefits as income and its taxable.

Sorry to hear that--but yeah, I pay what seems like a fortunate for health insurance every paycheck, but then on the rare occasion I go to the doctor for something simple, like basically just to get on antibiotics or something, it pays like $20 and I still owe $150... one time the doctor was like, "well, we'll just give you a flu test to see if that's what it is," *gives test* "nope, not flu." Then I get a bill for $350 just for that test. >_>
