Fucking EA. Don't you WANT people to want this game's? Especially since it has positive buzz for being a soulsborne style game heavy on puzzles with a neat approach to difficulty?

Embargos like this just turn gamers away.

Most Embargos don't last until launch day, usually it's a couple days, or at the worst, the day before, but not day of. Those happen, but are rare.

So....wait a day?
If I want a game and it gets good reviews, I purchase it before launch so that I can preload it, but yes, waiting a day is a non-issue.

No balls. DS lifted their embargo a week before and that was a weird, unconventional game. This appears to be a standard action game with uncharted platforming made for general audiences and they're still scared of reviews.

When your last game received universal acclaim and it was unfinished I'd be pretty confident letting my game out early too TBH

It's not even an uncharted style game though, it very much wears its dark souls influence on its sleeve.

Not so much on the fence as waiting to hear about game length, story quality, etc..
Tbqh I usually wait for the ACG review on most games as he tends to touch on a lot of points I care about in a game.

The gameplay is definitely Dark Souls inspired. But, of what we've seen so far, the way they handle set pieces, cinematography and story telling definitely looks like they took notes from Uncharted.

The wall climbing, squeezing through cracks, ect. looks more like Uncharted movement than dark souls. But lmao, is that how they are trying to market this game? As a soulsbourne game? Hilarious. Hope people don't fall for it.

I was already going to wait to watch a stream or two before buying. I find an hour in the right persons stream is significantly better at determining if a game is worthwhile.

So from my perspective, they can embargo all they want. I was already by and large going to ignore the reviews anyway.

Have you not seen any of the gameplay or something? Anyone with eyes can tell that Dark Souls/Sekiro had some influence on the game.
The combat looks way less hack-and-slash and more focused on slow-burn stand offs that revolve around you reading and reacting to enemies, and wearing down tougher enemies.

Hell, they even copied the bonfire save mechanic and it functions the exact same way as the Souls game.

Not to mention that the game literally has a block gauge you whittle down before using a finishing blow. Even the way MC moves and animates during combat seems to borrow heavily from Sekiro.

Yeah Kitt, it looks like an action game that borrows elements from Uncharted/GoW/DS but it doesn't look like a clone of any one game and I suspect they know how much gamers love DS even though they've neutering things about it like difficulty and a hundred other things but let's just call it a clone anyway.

Taking heavy influence=/=Being an outright clone

The way I see it, it's an action game with Dark Souls inspired gameplay and Uncharted inspired storytelling/set pieces. Hell, you even mentioned God of War (implying you're talking about the the new one), which the people working on it themselves admit was heavily inspried by Dark Souls.

Yeah and people weren't shilling new GoW as a Dark Souls clone to build artificial hype. That type of gameplay just kind of got popular and took over but that doesn't mean every game now is a Dark Souls clone. I imagine DS and this game are going to be very different games.

Duh. That's the main point I'm getting at. That type of gameplay just gotten popular over the years and it's clear this game (particularly it's combat) is heavily based on that in many ways. Of course it won't be an actual copy+paste DS game.

the most common reason is to prevent reviewers rushing through a game to get their review out as fast as possible, so they can get more clicks/views than their competitors. with more time available, the reviewer can play slower and get a more in-depth impression.

Lets not, if this game was a dark souls game with a SW paint job/skin fewer people would be interested in it. All games should have different difficulty settings so everyone can enjoy the game from casuals to hardcore gamers.

I have been gaming for years and while a challenge is fun some of the time it sure as hell is not wanted after a long day of work or a crappy day. People just want to relax at times and the stupid gimmick of dark souls being only hard mode along with enemies with stupid amounts of health is not going to give people that.
