I got the Sonic Ultimate bundle or w/e it's called on Steam. It came with most of the Sonic games, minus the Wii games and a few like Unleashed and SA1.

I'm thinking of playing Generations because I heard it's good, but apparently Mania is even better.

Or, should I play the shitty ones first and work up to the good ones?

Maybe work up to the good ones. You could start with sonic adventure 2 though.
Does it have sonic Riders?
Generations is pretty fantastic.
Sonic heroes is a bit alright. I feel it's when the series really leveled out since Sega was out of the console market by then

Mania, CD, 2, and Triple Trouble are my favorites.
Adventure was pretty good too and you can't go wrong with 1.

Lost World is hit and miss, it's cute in places but suffers from terrible writing...

thing is, it's rather playable on the WiiU using the tablet, but the special controls on PC just don't work right.

Ya, I use a wired 360 controller. The main gameplay works fine, it's just the special abilities that beg to use the WiiU pad

I actually prefer 06 to SA2 also, though I put SA2 above Heroes. That said SA2 does need played before 06, there's relevant plot details and 06 is noticeably bad coming from SA1 so the breakup is needed. No opinion on Mania, it's apples to oranges.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic Generations, and Sonic Mania are probably the top 3 most well made games in the franchise. I love Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 though they have their flaws and I can see why someone wouldn't like them. Sonic Advance 1 and 3 are really fun too. 2 is ok but I'm not a fan of the level design or boss battles.
