How do you guys feel about Gwenpool? I see so many people online talk about how shitty it is, but my local comic book stores all tell me how hard it is to keep them stocked because of how well they sell.

I got the first graphic novel of Gwenpool and it's a really fun. I'm really enjoying it so far. Just wanted to know if my local comic book readers had weird taste like me or if the online people are the vocal minority.

Can't really comment because it is not my style of comic. I tend to like more of the grittier, more realistic stuff like Daredevil, Punisher, Black Widow, etc. My guess would be people don't like it because it is not as "mature" as Deadpool or even Spiderman (From the outside looking in anyways). It is clearly targeted at a different kind of audience.

The first thing you need to consider is that how well the book is selling in your area (or your specific store/stores) is not necessarily how well it's selling overall. Then the second question you have to ask yourself is, are those sales (good or bad) to traditional comic book fans, or is the book actually pulling off the minor miracle (these days, anyway) of appealing to a completely all-new, all-different demo (comic nerd pun intended)?

From my understanding, the official sales numbers on that comic are absolutely abysmal. Even by modern standards, where the best-selling comics overall are still selling less than titles that would have been straight up cancelled in the 80s/90s if they were selling those numbers.

Which is probably why her original series was cancelled in the first place.

That has nothing to do with whether or not the stories are well written (I have no opinion on the matter, because I never really liked her as a concept, so I've never read them). But the impression I've always had is that she's niche at best and doesn't sell well. Like an even shittier Squirrel Girl.

The Marvel Lego games and MUA3 made me really dislike her. Never read any comics or watched a show with her in it.

Those same games also made me really dislike Carmilla Kan (okay, not even remembering how to write the actual name...) the new Miss Marvel.

The original Gwenpool run? Chris Hastings did an amazing job on the writing, and the art by Gurihiru was fun and fit the tone of the series really well. Granted, I'm a fan of the Adventures of Dr. McNinja, so Hastings being allowed to go a little bit nuts with the metatextual stuff within the Marvel Universe was pretty great.

So yeah, I enjoyed the hell out of The Unbelievable Gwenpool.

I haven't read the newer run, though, so I can't pass judgement on that. From what I've heard, though, it starts off not like the character at all (disappointing fans of the original), but that ended up being in service of the narrative they were going for later on, so I might have to give it a shot some time.

From what I've gathered, she has somewhat little appeal but the people who read her books tend to like them
