Yahtzee(Zero Punctuation dude) said it turns into RE4 after the hospital section, just with less ammo.
Well, I'm well after that, and I'm still having to stealth kill as much as possible because bullets are scarce as fuck. Been several years since I played it, but I remember enemies being kinda bullet spongey. Subsequent playthroughs your weapons are all upgraded of course so you kill things faster.

I don't remember ammo being much of an issue but then I played both it and RE4 very conservatively and used melee whenever I could to save bullets.
