Is life better being a kid or being an adult?

Both have their positives and negatives, but which has a overall better quality of life?

Depends on your community probably.

For me it's definitely my childhood. But that's cause even though we were kind of poor, my community was very inviting. Especially to me.

But there's people not as privileged that start off in extremely toxic environments. I imagine if they can break away from it as an adult, their adult years are the better end

It's the opposite of whatever you are. When you're a kid you wish you could drive and go places without parental permission. When you're an adult you wish everything in life was free.

Is it wishing everything was free or just not being excited about working your ass off in a job that only provides you just enough to get by because your country leaves you behind and doesn't care?

Most people would be fine with work if it actually gave them enough to have good quality of life overall

I love when people prove they don't really have a valid case by cherry picking a line out of a post, knowing that leaving in the context would devalue their response. There was literally just a problem with the rich taking all the funds that were suppose to save small businesses. How is that not being left behind?

Being an adult is slightly better.

But they both suck. Being a human is suffering. I would have rather been born a superior species. Like a dragon.

Being a dragon is awesome. You get to torch entire villages and the best they can do is send some guys wearing metal armor to fight something that breathes fire. Yeah. Real smart.

The best argument for it being better as a kid is "ignorance is bliss"

But as an adult I can do damn near whatever the hell I want when i want. I just have to think about finances, safety for my loved ones, keeping my ass from falling out, death, the cold death of the universe, oblivion, death, and keeping my ass from falling out

Nah, just telling it like it is. Did I hit a nerve?

Lol. People still say "I'm just telling it how it is"?

You can think you hit a nerve. But I came in here trying to understand both sides and be reasonable. You came in here taking unprovoked shots because you feel some sort of way. So even if you hit a nerve, you're still jaded as hell lol. Hitting my nerve wouldn't change that. Except that it would satisfy your jaded ass in an unhealthy way.

And for this post, Im petty. But I'm cool with that. So if you cool with being jaded just accept your jaded. We're all a little jaded.

This.

I look back on my childhood with mostly positive memories, but it's weird as shit to see adults who yearn to go back to being a kid again.

You can't go back to the experience of being a kid. Everything was new to you. Most things were exciting or terrifying. As a adult everything is mundane. Stuff is just starting to hurt. Bills and pressure. Only reason I would want to go back to being a kid is to reset and put more effort into money/learning opportunities that are offered.

Did you think you deserved some sort of nuanced discussion for getting upset over an innocuous statement and throwing a fit?

I expected it to be more fun than someone just doing the whole "your upset and I'm the truth because I state it". But if you don't wanna play then you don't wanna play, it's cool. I just wanted you to shine some of your glory on me. I never met someone who had the truth on lock like you do. You're being selfish by not sharing it and just telling me you have it.

You have more freedom to fuck around and enjoy things as a kid, but the freedom of being an adult is better.

Like having the freedom to go out in the middle of the day and have a beer and a bet, being physically, mentally and emotionally mature enough to have sex and being able to travel wherever you want within your means is infinitely better than being allowed to play Final Fantasy 8 all day because someone else said so.

My family was dirt poor when I was a kid and we still made best of the situation with what we had. We still got second hand game consoles, a generation behind which was better than nothing. I've never been so poor I had to eat peanut butter as a meal as an adult.

Being an adult is more mundane but I can imagine having a bad childhood giving you baggage to carry for the rest of your life.

Kids have to deal with abuse and bullies and following stupid parents and suffering through their mistakes.

Kids have it worse, imo.

My mental health is better as an adult than it was as a kid. No longer suicidal, not having hallucinations all the time. That's mainly due to medication, which I didn't have access to as a kid (I'm talking age 5 onwards).

I also don't have to deal with violence anymore, from either bullies or my mother.

That's what surprised me the most about being an adult. I hated being told "it gets better" as a kid - everyone who told me that didn't know what I was going through or how I was feeling, and they wouldn't/couldn't actually help me in a meaningful way. I couldn't confide in anyone about the bullying I was going through, or how awful I felt.

It felt like a bunch of self-congratulatory wank, like by telling me I would feel better one day they had uplifted me, when they had just passed the buck instead of actually being able to help me. I was convinced I didn't have a future past 18 and that I deserved to die.

I'm 25 now, and I can say that I feel better right now than I've felt in my entire life. Against the sheer hate I had for "it gets better" as a phrase, it was absolutely true. I understand and process my feelings so well now, and I've never been more secure in myself.

Also? The shit that kids get away with in school? As an adult, that's assault and abuse. You can take fuckers to court over that. Most people don't have to put up with that as adults because it's literally fucking illegal.
