You're walking home one night when you hear a ruckus and see a bunch of strange looking people in the darkness clearly ransacking a house (efficiently and quietly) and stealing everything of value through the windows.

You can't quite make it out in the dark but something just does not seem right about the strange shape of the crooks so you get a little closer and realize to your shock that these aren't people at all, but co-ordinated intelligent dogs of various breeds and sizes.

Suddenly the alpha dog smells you and growls, causing all the dogs turn to look at you while he says "Smell that!? It's a human. Get him!"

Before you could spell your name you are literally dogpiled and have your limbs bound with tape while the alpha continues "We've been compromised it's seen us.... we gotta kill it and bury it. Tie it up, then use knives so it can't be traced back to us. They'll always assume it was another human, we'll move on to the next town."

Some dogs start to drag you to the dirt while a mean looking Dobermann approaches your face/throat with a knife in it's mouth, mere inches away.

"W-wait... Wait! I'll...I'll d-do it." says a timid looking Golden Retriever. The other dogs then turn to look at it. "You keep saying I'm t-too s-s-soft. Let me prove I'm not boss."

"Fine just be quick. Won't be long until more humans turn up, we need to scram before we're done for." The Alpha says before the pack returns back to the house to finish the robbery.

The Golden Retriever waits until they are out of sight, then picks up the knife. However to your surprise the dog doesn't cut your body but instead cuts your bonds, freeing your limbs, drops the knife and says "Look I don't want to hurt nobody. Please just run away. Pretend you never saw any of this and go home. If you tell anyone and they find out, they'll kill you and me both.... just.... just... tell yourself it's a dream. Right? Dogs can't talk. You know that."

Then it barks and runs away into the darkness.

Moments later you stumble back to your feet and aside from the hair on your clothes and minor scratches/bruising there are no signs that any dogs were ever present and everything of value in the home has vanished.

ok first off

ill tell that dog that saved me to stay with me, and hide at my home.

then im gonna go to the local gun shop, arm myself and bring the fight to the fucking mutts.

I tell the retriever to stay with me; I'll protect us both. I then use his inside knowledge to find the rest of the pack alone; I come prepared with a dog whistle though. I negotiate with them and hopefully become successful in being thier pretend owner to help them fence what they've stolen and provide shelter where needed.

They are in charge, but they know they need an inside man to do the stuff they can't. I become an icon in the underground dog burglar world. I'm treated as an equal; using the money they get to buy them what they want and living happy with a bunch if intelligent 4 legged friends. The rest is history.. until the bank robbery where they all get caught and I escape with everything; including the retriever.

Seems like a lose lose

Either you fail and are killed by dogs

or you succeed and end up in prison as that lunatic that shot a bunch of dogs

What would I even do? You said yourselves that there's no signs of dogs being present which means there's no evidence. So it will be assumed it was a human burglary and nothing I say can prove otherwise. If there's no evidence, they are skilled at this and will have left no tracks so there's no way to track them down. You didn't imply I know the owner of this home and I wasn't actually harmed or robbed myself, so there's no motive for me to pursue the matter regardless.

I erase my identity and become the Punisher in that world. Pups will tell stories about me to frighten each other. They will call me the Dogcatcher.
