Most people with a parent with a quirk also get a quirk but Deku didnt get one despite having two parents w/

Yep, this is like the opposite of X-Men where most people aren't mutants in that world. In this though very few have "powerful" quirks though most have random semi-useless ones.

Stuff like putting a dot on the wall, making it slightly hotter in an area etc..

Demon Slayer feels kind of similar and is imo a lot better, though the tone is a bit more all over the place and the world building feels kind of whack.

Yeah as it says right at the very start, over 80% of population has some kind of ability...not always super useful, but something that sets them apart from us normal folk in the real world at least. Being born w/o one in those times is a rarity.

For a shonen it's good. Not anything particularly special, but I enjoy superheros so that definitely gives it bonus points.

Demon Slayer has top tier fight scenes. Extremely flashy and well choreographed. I don't think it's very similar to MHA though.

I kind of put DS, MHA and OPM in the same category in my head cause I don't watch a lot of long running battle Shonen and they all have some character designs that feel intentionally stupid.

I didn't have DS in that category until they introduced all the different pillars.

I would say a lot of Shonen have a few intentionally stupid designs.
OPM, however, is different because it puts a large focus on stupid designs for comedy.

Others have already covered the 80% of the population and useless quirks bit, but they also are not allowed to use their quirks freely iirc.
For example, all heroes are legally required to have a hero license.

One thing that does bug me about this show is that the heroes have to constantly train to get better, but the villains never train and are still powerful lol. Too many anime do this and it's annoying.

It's not too farfetched in Academia. Villains would obviously not obey the laws restricting the use of quirks, so they'd naturally get better with them over time unlike others who would only use them in specific circumstances. That still means some people are naturally better than others, but the weaker villains get picked off every day by all the countless heroes in the world.

One bizarre example where this really bothers me isn't an anime at all, but rather the 2012 TMNT cartoon (and maybe other TMNT as well I don't remember). The turtles train constantly, but if even a cockroach gets exposed to mutagen it proceeds to solo all four of them easily. Given the monster of the week formula they use, this happens every episode.

I havent seen the show of read many post here yet. But I have wanted to watch this. Mainly because people talk about it a lot. Also, lots of yaoi on Reddit. A whole sub for yaoi for this particular anime, tbh...

Basically 99% of the population has quirks. It's the next stage of human evolution.

Given, not everyone's quirks are practical for combat.

Because of the rampant chaos that resulting in everyone having super powers, society agreed that using your powers in public should require a license you have to earn.

They're both separate adaptations of the same manga.

FMA adapts the first part of the manga and then makes up the rest.

FMA B adapts the full manga.

You can watch either, or even both. Both have fans which insist their version is better. I've only watched FMA B which is very good.

I think to some extent Brotherhood has the expectation that you've seen the first one and deliberately skims over bits so as not to retread the same parts, but it's not difficult at all to understand Brotherhood just on its own. It is a standalone adaptation.

I think it's just because so much is produced literally anything gets made. Manga is like that times a thousand, and then they just pick the 200 most popular manga every year to make a show out of.

Anime of a popular but unfinished manga? Sure.

Adapt that same manga again now that it's finished? Why not.

As long as the otakus buy merch.

How it works is, they're both based on the manga called Fullmetal Alchemist. But the first show was created in 2003 long before the manga came to an end, and did not intend to be a long runner. So the creators (with input from the original author) wrote up an original ending for that series, which would naturally differ from the manga's ending since that one didn't exist yet. The result was that about halfway through the first anime, a lot of things become different from the manga, including the origins of the antagonists.

Some years later, they decided to adapt the manga properly, with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. When they did they kind of rushed through the material in the beginning, since we had already seen it in the first show.

They're both extremely good and despite what many people would have you believe, the first show is very much worth watching. Most actually agree that any material shared between the two shows is done better in the first one, and besides that they sort of have different approaches as well. The '03 show focuses more on drama and personal development, and Brotherhood more on overall plot and action.

Bakugo is one of my favorite deuteragonists in shonen, and makes the series worth enjoying for that alone.

I just wish he didnt get sidelined so often. The other characters just cant carry a scene or bring conflict in the same way he can, so it always bums me out when they do something without him there.
