Tali'Zorah nar Rayaa (vas Neema) (vas Normandy) 93/100 The Bioware experience used to be grounded in the humanity of its various characters, anchoring itself to real, moving stories that spun out from surprisingly complex concepts. I always thought that Tali had a significant amount of nuance; as a character she grew from a Rumspringa teen into a genuinely important leader in her culture. Ascending into adulthood seemed to come with unique baggage and the death of her optimism served to help the series in its transition from the sleek science fiction of the first game to the high-stakes finality of the third. Tali always remained a little bit sheltered, a product of using human culture as a crutch to maintain the illusion of her naive nature in the back third of the trilogy. I think this probably allowed players to appreciate her romance as one that included a certain amount of protectorship for the character. And the mystery of her face... that was something pretty alluring. I think the unknown always plays itself up well in keeping a player glued to a character of any nature. Introducing it as something that could be attractive just makes the entire affair a little naughty, like something forbidden. --- "It is too easy being monsters. There's a little bit of a self-awareness in the series now, knowing that it's flimsy plotting is just there to provide framework for amazing gameplay. It's the side series where Bowser really shines. A murderer and conqueror playing tennis? Driving cars? Allowing his archenemy to spend an entire story lodged within his innards? Shulk probably is the most shocked of the cast, and that's fair considering that the Monado Monado Monado Monado Monado Monado, right? I think Monado is the new buffalo in Xenoblade. I've always found the story of FF7 to be extremely engaging, and FF7R brought new brushes to an old painting, allowing me to look at the game with fresh eyes. I've tried countless times, and while their are sequences and concepts that really pull me in, there's a pervasive amount of blandness that fills the rest of the cracks.
