Cause all the monster fighting was really cool, but everything else was just painfully bad to watch. Why do they even get talented actors and actresses if theyre gonna give them all dialogue like they are still in elementary school.

And all of the humor was bad. All of it. So much of it was just references to things that exist as if that made it a punchline. And why were there so many stupid details that didnt matter at all to the overall plot?

Doesnt seem like you need to have that much motivation to have two giant monsters fight but of course the movie was chock full of all sorts of dumb stuff like a hollow earth, some kind of dumb psionic robot control, hollow earth technology, oh and of course a mute child that exists only to act as an anchor to remind the audience that Kong is sort of a good guy so that ALL the monsters dont just seem like total assholes.

I watch plenty of dumb movies but they went so overboard with this one. And Legendary has been especially bad about pandering to the Chinese government with their films in recent years but they seriously had the monsters pretty much destroy most of Hong Kong? I mean for real what the fuck.

Avatar was hilariously bad back when it came out (IMO), so that's about what I'd expect. Too bad really.

I feel like a lot of the Godzilla films desperately want to say something thought provoking but don't have anything to say. The 2014 film was a really bad example of this.

The original film is like 70 years old at this point, you've got no obligation to add to its thesis. It's okay if you just want to be a big monster movie.

That's my biggest problem with them, and also a lot of zombie movies. I don't need the social commentary. Stop trying to make the movie something more than it is, we just want monster fights. Stay in your lane

yeah that is what really ruined The Walking Dead for me

they kept trying to make it some half assed criterion drama and they sucked at it

Plus they can provide their own commentary about mass panic in way more subtle ways. I don't need a bunch of plot devices shoehorned in.

I don't have a problem if they do it and they're good at it. The original Godzilla obviously did. I hear Shin Godzilla did as well, though I haven't seen that one. Even a lot of modern superhero films can do it well.

But you get corporate suits or whoever going "well obviously this Godzilla movie needs to be dramatic and respectful of the source material, even though we don't know how to do that" ignoring the half century of schlock Godzilla has starred in.

Its because modern hollywood director dont get the appeal of what made old Godzilla movies great.
The biggest set piece was the monster fights, which many of these new godzilla movies lack.

Also there is little emphasis on military men, but instead the military as a whole.

The human side of the old Godzillas struggles very rarely had humor/comedy and if it did it was dry. The main characters were often scientists or normal people. The way the story was enjoyable was that when godzilla wasnt "bad" he would inadvertently save the main cast from the side monsters or opposing big 'mon.

^it was. Loved king of the monsters and 2014. Vs Kong had the worst story and is only better than 2014 in that it had more fights. Honest trailers nailed everything about the movie in their latest video.
