Technically he was a bad guy (well, he was definitely a bad guy, just more of a joke than a real threat) so it kept him out of trouble. I guess he just got used to them after that, plus in theory I guess he could count on them for safety because they were the strongest people on the planet. That said, I don't remember seeing him a ton after DB.
