Yea. That bugs me. I can cope with no afterlife but the idea everything might end someday blows my mind and depresses me. I kinda hold out hope we have it wrong and the universe can persist always. Or another theory I like is the universe reincarnates. Like after a big crunch is a new big bang

That actually isn't true. It just means accepting ignorance about the afterlife. People associate that with agnosticism, but that isn't true. I'm an Atheist, but I don't know for sure anything about the afterlife. There just isn't anything out there that convinces me of what the afterlife is.

Atheists dont believe in a god or gods. Different atheists could easily have a bunch of different beliefs about every other subject imaginable. I think most reasonable atheists would admit they dont know what happens after death. Thats not the same as saying there is no afterlife, plus we dont have to assume you need a god for there to be an afterlife to begin with.

This right here is part of why religion exists. People fear nonexistence.

It's always made sense to me, our consciousness and who we are is in our brain and when we die, our brain dies and we cease to exist.

Surprised no one has said there are religions that believe the same thing like Judaism about there being no afterlife. Guess it shows how few religious people post on CE.

I mean, it's possible we existed before being born. We just don't remember. :v We don't remember being babies either but we all were at one point. Past life memories and near death experiences make me think there must be something going on after we die.
