Its so fucking sad those people are all most likely dead. Hopefully they can still save any who may be somehow alive

it seems like there has been some delay in awareness about this story from my perspective, is that accurate or no? Was there a delay in emergency crews trying to save people?

Do they know what happened at all? Was this a low income or majority ethnic community? I have a lot of questions

Currently everything has been focused on rescue so I haven't seen anything that says they know the cause yet. It is beach front property near Miami, so definitely not low income.

Supposedly the night before, one of the residents called her daughter and told her there was loud creaking. Loud enough to wake her.

It wasn't low income. The article that I read said the building had two bedroom units listed for $600k-$700k

It's a big enough number that it puts the units well out of the price range of someone who would fall under the low income category.

The numbers haven't changed in like 24 hours . I find that odd. Still 4 dead, 159 missing

I heard they started getting DNA samples from relatives of the missing. I think they have found more dead but don't want to make it public. Supposedly some of the bodies are in such horrifying shape they needed DNA to tell who is who

You're probably just kidding around, but the I've been finding the people seriously saying crap like this are only trying to hop on the profitable conspiratorial claim. Let's talk about building code in Florida, lets talk about sand. Lets not make vague statements that anti-semites and 9/11 truthers can latch onto like the leeches they are.

I'm not sure how its been over two days and there's still only four confirmed dead. What are the rescuers doing, not finding survivors or even the remains of people apparently.

What the fuck is this

Buildings "just collapse" all the fucking time, because of structural wear over long periods of time that go unnoticed.

It is extremely unusual for it to happen in a place like the United States though, typically this stuff is fairly highly regulated. But the US has been on a bit of a backslide when it comes to maintenance and inspections. It's possible we could see this becoming more commonplace.

That probably won't have any effects on inspections and maintenance of private properties, which is the issue here. It's more focused on public infrastructure.

The building was actually due this year for a top to bottom engineering inspection.

To secure the buildings foundation, engineers placed steel supports deep into the sandbar. Right now the hypothesis is that those supports were corroded by seawater over time. Resident reported that the underground parking garage always had puddles, even on dry days.

I'm betting this is going to end up being like Grenfell. Someone cut corners to save money, the building owners knew about it, lots of people got killed, and not a damn thing will happen to anyone.

And someone will be getting a tidy sum of money under the table to make sure things stay that way.

It's been 5 fucking days, they don't have the rubble collected. They're still focusing on pulling people out, all there are right now are records of past inspections. This is a months long investigation if it's done quick and dirty, possibly years if they really want answers

I think most people know that, but its just a difficult thing to talk about in the news because theres always a slim chance someone has somehow miraculously survived and there are so many families struggling with this tragedy that are still holding out some slim hope

but yeah the way the building came down, the way the rubble has been shifting, the fact that the rubble burned for days, chances are the number dead will be at least as high as the number missing, if not more considering people could have been in the building but not reported as missing yet

some of the bodies sadly wont be recovered because there may not be much remains left unfortunately. Such a tragic and preventable event. Stuff like this is why unfettered capitalism wont work. There have to be real regulations to keep things safe
