Is that for me at least, its a lot easier to fall asleep

I used to have terrible insomnia and would somedays be up and working for several days with very little or no sleep in between

but now I fall asleep very easily and can sleep almost anywhere, its great

When's the point where this turns around, cause I think my insomnia has just been increasing slowly for like the past 7ish years. I think you're like five years older than me though

I sleep significantly less than I did when I was younger or childless

Most of the older people I know find the reverse to be true. Trouble getting to sleep, trouble staying asleep, waking up too early and not being able to get back to sleep, getting up multiple times a night to have to pee, etc. I know multiple people who've had to be prescribed things to help them sleep because it was causing them issues.

You technically need less sleep as you get older (though it's more complicated than that, and involves different proportions of REM/non-REM sleep), but the overall quality of your sleep can still be an issue. And if your sleeping pattern is screwed up, you can wind up having way less energy through the day as well. So you basically wind up being tired way more often, but never being able to get the right amount of sleep to ever really fix it.

The other super-fun thing you may notice as you get older is that you have less energy in general than you used to. Did you used to have fun pulling all-nighters in college? Staying up drinking and partying with friends until the wee hours of the night? Getting by on 4 hours of sleep because you were too busy trying to cram work and leisure and social life into a single 24 hour day? Yeah, that all stops. Eventually you get to a point where you start getting tired early and can't really fight it off and you just wind up going to bed early because you don't really have the energy to stay up.

Being bipolar, sleep is still very important, and very hard to get if I get off schedule.

While I like to say Mead is my clone, he could almost (well not almost technically he could) be my son.

Sadly at 50 at least for me, getting to sleep can be really freaking hard and I don't like using drugs/supplements etc (even melotonin). It's freaking a pain in the ass sometime, like Tuesday when I couldn't get to sleep till freaking 4 am and had to be up at 7 am for work.

I have an alarm set and always wake up at 7 now, so at least that is something, and it does usually let me fall asleep by 11-12pm, but every so often BAM my stupid brain won't shut off and I toss and turn for hours, usually I just give up after an hour or two, log on a read soething, watch something and that gets me tired so I can fall asleep after shutting it down. If I just keep trying, I can toss and turn and not fall asleep all night.

It freaking sucks.

I should just do drugs like everyone else.

I'm the opposite. I could sleep through earthquakes as a kid and now I have both a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep.
