10 years?
20 years?
30 years?
40 years?
50 years?

They have to be a part of the regular season roster, not just preseason. If so, what position?

I have to agree it's the best chance. For baseball... I can only imagine a pitcher that has monster movement on their pitches. Like a caliber never seen because most likely, their fastball will be significantly slower than everyone in the MLB. NHL it's hard to imagine with how physical it is. I don't know the inner workings of b-ball, but I'm sure an NBA fan can tell me what disadvantages to expect.

the nhl possibly. i think the nhl is the most likely sport for a woman to show up in.

Not even close. NHL is a very physical league and most women would be smothered to the boards trying to move the puck in the o-zone. Then the whole battling for position in front of the slot while a 6'4 230ib defenseman is cross-checking you.

And add to the fact that most women no where have the agility that pro NHLers do. It's a super hard league to make.

dude there are tiny guys in the league that never get touched. nathan gerbe 5'4 never gets touched. patrick kane 5'9. gaudreau skinny as a stick. zuccarello. debrincatt

you obviously never seen jason robertson skate. easily one of the slowest skaters in the history of the sport yet came in 2nd in the calder voting. agility is recommended in the modern era but not required

The Canadian Women's National team gets dummied by Canadian Male Collegiates or Midget AAA during tune-up games. The competition is no-where close.

And guys like Gerbe, Kane, and Marner have a frame significantly heavier than women players. Remember when Phaneuf's high schooler brother checked Hayley Wickenheiser to the floor and she threw a tantrum.

The point I'm making is Hayley Wickenheiser who was 31 at that time got rubbed out by a 15 year old.

Now put that same afformentioned single outlier in the nhl with someone like Hedman, Doughty or god forbid Tom Wilson breathing down their neck.

They don't possess the biological makeup to keep up in a top flight league like the NHL.

Thats silly. The first female assistant NBA coach (Becky Hammon) was appointed to the position by arguably the greatest NBA coach of all time. There are a dozen women in assistant coaching positions today (may be more now, that number is from a year or 2 ago). There are plenty of female referees these days too.

(I dont know about other sports, basketball is what I know.)

Unlike physical strength/ability, knowledge isn't something that one sex inherently has more of than the other. So it's really sexist to assume that no woman could ever have the knowledge and strategy needed to be a good coach in a men's league.

Becky Hammon is a top assistant for the Spurs in the NBA and even head coached in the Summer League too. Considering her experience and success in the WNBA, clearly she knows a lot about the game of basketball, and the game isn't so drastically different between the NBA and WNBA that her knowledge and experience wouldn't carry over and be useful to NBA teams. The same could apply with a former softball player becoming a baseball coach, because fundamentally softball and baseball aren't so different that the knowledge wouldn't carry over.

It really does. Manon rheuame played a pre season game or two for the lightning and she was not nearly good enough or strong enough and physical enough to play even as a goalie. And at the time she was unquestionably the best female goalie by miles.

A woman playing defence or forward would get murdered in the nhl

A woman would literally have a better shot making it in the NFL as a qb than having an nhl career.

A woman is not going to be physically developed naturally to keep up with the NHL. There's no outlier that will change this. At average, the size of NHL players are around 6'1 at 200 pounds.

No woman could get close enough to this weight with a healthy bf% without compromising their health or they play in their regular size and severely hurt themselves.

Hell, Annika Sorenstam and Michelle Wie tried to compete in the PGA and they were no where close as they were usually bottom of the tournament standings

No, but comparing men to women in sports is not the point. A regular on the hockey board can't stop saying how bad women's hockey is because Junior-A mens teams would beat the ladies olympic team. That isn't the point! Who cares! They're biologically different, it doesn't make it bad hockey or make it not entertaining. It's good for it's own merit, for what it is!

The real question is, will there be a WNHL or WMLB or WNFL (lol)? Soccer and Basketball are probably the most established sports for ladies' leagues.

Yeah just look at Karsten baarsch when he destroyed Venus and Serena. He spent the morning drinking and smoking cigaes and wrecked them both hard. He was ranked like 300th in the world and they were absolutely the most dominant women in tennis and in their prime.

Venus even said she could not believe the power and explosiveness he had and said she'd never seen anything like it playing against women.

Thats tennis. And two women who are absolute beasts. It'd be brutal and horrible to see in the nhl.

Realistically even a dude like Cole caufield would wreck basically any woman with a clean hit. Maybe not Gabi garcia or someone, but she's also a roid monster who could never play hockey.

youve obviously never heard of pro wrestling. plenty of big women. bull nakano 5'7 200lbs, looked like a beast in her prime. so no, it is possible, if a 5'7 wrestler chick can put on weight and still perform crazy moves so can a professional athlete.

Pro Wrestling doesn't compare to hockey. Wrestling is choreographed with spots and the wrestlers involved try their best to protect eachother from injury by minimizing impact.

Someone that's 5'7 and 200ibs is going to be a pylon trying to skate on ice. Lol even slower than Jason Allison on a penalty shot

I'm surprised to see the debate being about the NHL most of all in this thread. Out of the 4, the NHL not only is very physical, but probably promotes it the most (although the NFL is still more rough in that regard, but at least there are a variety of positions such as the kicker even if that has a chance of seeing action too). The NHL is a league that still glorifies the fighting, where you can actually punch another player and not be suspended even!

To me, it'd be the least likely of the four honestly.
