I'm going to be getting a pretty badass PC with a 4K monitor on Cyber Monday, and I'm wondering what games I should try on it first. My most powerful console is only an Xbone X, so I'm lagging behind the graphics curve by quite a bit.(my laptop has a GTX 1070, which apparently is about as powerful as the GPU in the Xbone X, so I guess maybe you can make a case for my laptop being a little stronger, maybe)

dwarf fortress

but on a serious note, total war games look absolutely amazing when you pump them up to max settings and unit sizes. three kingdoms is the best realistic one, warhammer is fantasy and great in its own right

Isn't Crisis on the maximum settings the standard for best PC performance?

dwarf fortress

In terms of OpenGL processing Dwarf Fortress is still the benchmark

Crysis is half a meme, its tree/foliage generator does scale indefinitely which is hella cool but other settings aren't as scalable as the newest CryEngine 5 or Serious Engine 3.5

Never gave the Total War games a chance, I'll look into it, thanks.

Even my 3 year old laptop can run Crysis Remastered at recommended settings.

Recommended settings don't mean anything... you have to overtune the scalable settings

Yeah, but a game with such low minimum and recommended settings isn't going to be very impressive even on maximum settings.

Terraria. You lose track of your mouse pointer when things get serious.

Real answer is that I don't really know. My 970 handles everything I've played at 1080p. The very worst were games that were badly optimized to begin with. I guess I haven't experienced next-gen PC games yet.
