What if Tony built a Gundam?

What if the writers took a jab at the Patriot Act by having the military nationalize Stark Industries and seize their weapon assets? (Can the Patriot Act do that?)

What if the episode just stopped instead of having a proper ending really?

Kinda middling altogether.

This is far from the only one to do that tbf.

I agree that it was pretty meh though. I feel like they shouldn't focus so much on Tony and Pepper if they can't get RDJ to voice him. Tony's was at least kinda close, but Pepper sounded nothing like Paltrow.

Yeah I don't care about the voices being different all that much. We knew it going in.

I mean honestly I think the biggest letdown for me was the final scene with Pepper and Shuri agreeing to work together and that's where it stops. Like show us the result of that work ready to stand against Killmonger Black Panther at least if you're not going to show it in action. The literal words said out loud by me were "Oh tell me Shuri builds Rescue!"

And then.... credits lol.

It was Pepper more than anything else. She sounded so, so different that it's really jarring.

Also while I was showering I had thoughts about the whole premise behind What If.

It seemed in the first episode that the whole premise was "one small change" and I feel that they're kinda losing the thread on that.

1. Peggy chooses to stay in the experiment chamber instead of the observation room.
2. Yondu sends his crew to Earth instead of going himself.
3. It's offscreen to preserve the mystery, but Hope van Dyne joining SHIELD instead of Pym Tech.
4. This one's pretty dang vague, and best I can gather is that Stephen and Christine keep the relationship going, instead of ending it, but how did that happen? What was the catalyst?
5. For the sake of zombies, I'm willing to be fine with "quantum virus decides to attack Janet van Dyne instead of not".
6. Killmonger just... what? Goes to Tony Stark in Afghanistan instead of... what? What was he doing on Sacred in 2008? Maybe they glossed over it a bit in the episode and I just didn't pick up on it.

My point is that these "one small change" things are become more and more vague for allegedly being the focal point of the series.

anyway, while it's not the best episode, I preferred it to the zombie one and the one where Pym killed everyone.

Why isn't The Watcher blue anymore? They just stopped applying whatever filter they had over him in the previous episodes ever since his conversation with Strange.

The catalyst in 4 was Christine dying instead of Stephen's hands being damaged in the crash. In the prime timeline, Stephen losing the ability to use his hands drove him search for a cure at Kamer-Taj since he couldn't find a way to fix himself with science. I'm guessing that, because Christine's death becomes Strange's motivation that would eventually lead him to defeat Dormammu in that timeline, Christine's death becomes the absolute point instead of Strange's hands getting damaged.

The thing with that Doctor Strange was he wasn't as arrogant or something, allowing him to go on and have a relationship, but it also made breaking his hands and becoming sorcerer supreme impossible.

Instead it was Christine's death.

This one had the worst voice acting of the bunch, which is saying something. For season 2 they really need to focus on shoring that up. Its cool to get the live action actors if you can, but not if they cant voice act very well.

I mean, I guess it's not all THAT important in the grand scheme of things, but it did seem to be significant in the first episode.

I'm honestly hoping there won't be a season 2 of this. What If...? has had a couple episodes I've enjoyed, but overall it's meh.

Bucky in the first episode was definitely worse. I figured Sebastian Stan just isn't a good VA, but then he was fine in the zombie episode.

Id like to see what if...thor went for the head.

A Thor at that specific moment with the infinity gauntlet, could be pretty scary what hed unleash trying to do whatever it is he wants.

Yeah, it's sad, I think basically everything would be better if they gave it the proper impact it deserves, need 2-3 episodes. Not 1 30min ep.
