It was previously reported that, along with film and television, video game characters described by Chinese authorities as "effeminate males" and LGBTQ+ storylines will be effectively banned from screens. The memo also provided more details on this ban, stating, "If regulators can't tell the character's gender immediately, the setting of the characters could be considered and red flags will be raised." This applies to male characters dressed as or behaving like a woman.

Okay putting aside the fucked up shit in the OP, how much do you actually know about Chinese pop culture? It's a country of a billion people with languages that are some of the most difficult to translate to English. I'm willing to wager 99% of CE has no qualifications whatsoever to make any claim about Chinese pop culture.

Chinese youth definitely enjoy anime, bishounen characters, etc. Genshin Impact was made by Otaku in China. If you go to China anime stuff is everywhere (a lot of it counterfeit) and K-Pop is also huge. My wife actually initially moved to Japan because she was big into BL (basically a fujoushi), and the crackdowns on LGBT stuff have been going on for a long time, it's just getting more strict now. A woman was jailed in China for writing BL fiction. The youth are not super conservative, but there is no way to express a political opinion that goes against the government online (earlier this year all major LGBT and feminist groups online and at colleges were shut down) or vote for change, so you can't assume everything the elites in charge do reflect what the people want. They also have a massive inverted population, so the youth make up a relatively small percent.

That website doesn't have a paywall for me. Try making up new excuses or use one of the dozens of free simple ways to bypass the paywall. The content is the same either way. All of the world isn't even on that level. I would consider Japan pretty conservative compared to Western Europe and I can literally walk to any store here and pick up gay manga. No one is even considering something remotely like this here. America has people who would love something like this there, they're called conservatives.
