Never heard stuff past vol.8 so it is nice to see Horita didn't lose his touch. (At least with Prismatic Insanity anyway.) It's hard to judge this thing after listening to it for the first time, but I think I might like it more than Kohri right now? That's one hell of a first impression.

i can't believe that hideaki kobayashi is returning to his Chaos Angel Zone (sonic advance 3) style so m,uch in the pso universe, you would think it doesn't work in the setting, but i guess it works when you put weird chord changes alongside the halloween aspects

Prismatic Insanity {Hidekuni Horita} is the sort of songs where dante would say something like "Hidekuni horita needs to learn how drums work SOMEONE teach him about drums" on the same spreadsheet that hidekuni horita is making composer guesses on who composed each of the pso2 songs but this is everything that makes it impossible to deny that horita is one of my favorite vgm composers because he is the only person in the world who can sound exactly like this excessively distinct thing that nothing else sounds like

oh speaking of music that only one person in the world could have written. one of my favorites from this episode. it is so dissonant that it is mad at you angry prog. and it's like you could hear vaguely similar things in a Keith Emerson (hayato matsuo (hiromi uehara (derek sherinian))) song but if you did it wouldn't have sounds as cool as this in it or quite as bizarre of harmonies and that is why PSO2 is my favorite ost or set of music in the WORLD its like nothing matters as much as how drenched in parallel fourths and fifths it is and it's just so inherently futuristic at any given second of the song though this track has lots of moments that add to my theory that jun senoue ghostwrites for horita sometimes. like all the "normal melody" parts i mean but then horita harmonized them in ways that sound like a wacky wednesday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4gclTXiseo (listening to phaleg is like watching derek sherinian -dragonfly at 2x speed )

photoner is so LOUD but makes me thtink it's doing really crazy polyrhythms even though it's just 3/4 against 4/4, i think the reason it sounds crazier than that is because it's like constant 16ths at the weird parts but not all of the notes are the same volume or really with a clear starting pitch of that loop so then it's hard to ascertain where "beat 1" is of that loop so it sounds like it's moving at a non-standard x/16 rate but really it's more like led zeppelin kashmir
