"Oh women's rights and other civil rights are at risk of being taken away. It's gonna be a close election! Please vote but remember to stay respectful and willing to compromise! Trust the process!"

Their attitude doesn't seem to match the stakes they're talking about.

Agreed. Cuz they're pussies, and always will be pussies. They're afraid of shaking things up or hurting any feelings, when the people who's feelings would be "hurt" by them literally want to string them all up in a plaza while chanting Trump won.

It's a joke.

practicality. they know (and are correct) that if they push too hard they lose more moderates to the right than they gain from the left.

they can definitely do more. but anyone who thinks an AOC agenda is getting passed without an immediate flood of republicans into congress is out of their damn mind. just look at the reaction to Obama, and he was barely a moderate. and only really pushed for one piece of legislation, and a compromise piece at that.

edit: they do actually have one play this time, though. get a Voting Rights Amendment to the States, with no time limit. but they need to get on it yesterday.

"Republicans are really threatening our right to vote, so show them up by voting harder!"

How many Dems can look at that as a valid strategy just shows they don't care about shit and just expect the people to always come out and vote for them no matter what. It's not going to continue being a winning strategy when states like Texas and Florida are doing their damnedest to keep those states from turning purple.

There's no way to know that when they've never made an attempt.

Republicans took a gamble on Trump in 2016 and won, unlike when they used Romney and McCain to claim moderation.

I'd never vote for a democrat the rest of my life if there was a US political party that was even center in political alignment, but our choices are conservatives or fascists

reason they're not telling people to arm up and shoot their competition, a message you'll see casually alluded to from much of conservative media, is because its not a message most democrats see as viable.

Its why the democrat strategy of if we lose this time democracy will die almost never works unless the republicans are currently playing their fiddle a little too loudly while everything burns. Less and less people believe it every time because far too often when they do get majorities, nothing much happens and what does is marred by either savage infighting or self sabatoge to attempt to please the right

A lot of people on the left and in the middle won't show up to vote. There's a problem with people being disillusioned with America and feeling that their vote won't matter one way or another.

If voting were mandatory, Democrats would win by a landslide each time.

That's probably literally the reason it isn't mandatory.

Yeah, democrats are just paid opposition at this point, the bill they need to pass to at least have something to show their voters is effectively stillborn yet another cut, that still won't satisfy Sinma or Manchin until the bill is dead.

Their identities as career politicians depend on there being a continual stream of problems the other side either doesnt think are important enough to tackle or doesnt want to tackle. If they actually solved these problems, theyd need to come up with new platforms each year and might lose votes from people whove already had their problems solved.

Its much easier and lucrative to career politicians to just leave problems alone as long as you can.

The Democrats don't actually want to fight. They want to make it look like they're fighting, like they're the only ones pushing for progressive change, only to fumble the ball at the 5 yard line. It's the same thing with Democrats nixing the Public Option at the start of ACA talks, even though they controlled Congress and the White House.

It wasn't him, actually: it was Max Baucus, the guy Obama chose to write the Senate bill. Baucus was a long-time industry ally. The public option only ever existed in the House version, but it was never going to happen because Obama was working with the health insurance lobby from day one.

God, what a damned waste Obama was. Not only did he do very little good, but he managed to push Biden across the finish line to insure nothing would get done that might trouble his fellow plutocrats.

Don't forget that they benefit from the status quo almost as much as the GOP when it comes to capitalism and getting paid by their corporate donors. This isn't some bothsides bullshit though, the GOP are fascists through and through. Which is scarier because it's exactly how Weimar died, the people in the center were more willing to work with fascists to preserve the status quo because they benefited from it. They didn't realize till they got thrown into camps or killed that fascists never negotiate or operate in good faith.
