I think Days of Heaven is just excellent, but I've only seen a few of his films.

The Tree of Life
The Thin Red Line

Both of those are probably in my top 10. The rest range from decent to kind of bad.

Is The Thin Red Line an experimental or "normal" film? I think he's better at "normal" films.

It's more like his later work than his earliest stuff, but it's slightly more "normal" than something like Tree of Life.

I think his first four movies are his best. Ironically, I find his style more interesting when its tethered to more traditional, even generic trappings.

I guess The Thin Red Line is watchable. I don't like any of his other stuff.
