Poll of the Day > How hard are the Mega Man X games?

The only X game I owned and beat was 8. I kind of want to get the X legacy games because they're sale on the Switch right now, but I'm wondering if I'll be able to even beat them because I'm not too great with at these kinds of sidescrolling games.

I had ZX and ZX Advent, and I think I beat them? So are these games harder or easier than those games? If the X games are super hard, how are Z 1-4? I could get the Z collection games instead, since they're on sale.(I also don't remember shit about the ZX games, so it's almost like I'll be playing them fresh)

Harder than Classic easier than Zero

I'd probably hold off on getting the Zero/ZX collection for now.

Capcom games go on sale all the time and those games will eventually go for up to 50% off at some point. (probably sometime later this year or early next year)

The X collection is probably the lowest it's gonna get though so grab those if you want.

As for difficulty I'd rank them Classic<X(3D)<X(2D)<ZX<Zero

Most of the X games are pleasantly challenging. They're not ridiculously hard, but they're not a cakewalk either.

Except X6. That game enjoys fucking you sideways.

Damn, X is pretty fucking hard. Which stage should I do after Chill Penguin? I can get to the boss fight of Armored Armadillo, but he's so tanky, and I can't get past the mini boss of Spark Mandrill.

If you get zero/zx, PLAY CASUAL SCENERIO. Its a more balanced way to play.

A lot easier than the NES games

Id say just get the 1st collection. X1-4 are all good games but the quality stats to dip dramatically and X6 and 7 are both kinda shit.

I've only played the first 4, but I think they're pretty manageable. I think the first one is the easiest, thanks to that one bat in the cave spamming you with extra lives.

I remember X2 being kinda easy. I would probably suck at it now though.

Oh man, I got all the sub tanks, armor parts, and heart pieces, but I can't get past the floating platform part in the beginning of Sigma castle or w/e it's called. I tried about 20 times and it's just so frustrating! :(

Use the homing missiles to shoot the fuckers that fly at you

The worse part IMO is coming up. A big vertical area with spikes and lasers, I recommend fully charging the chameleon shot and blasting through it as fast as possible

I don't even know if I'll ever get past these floating platforms. If I don't pass it soon, I might skip beating X1 for now and move on to X2 and come back later.

The only hard one is X3.

Don't know if you're past it yet, but the charged rolling shield will destroy them in one hit without breaking the shield

Funfact - in the SNES version of Megaman X it's called the "Horming" Torpedo

I was gonna mention the Rolling Shield, but I couldn't remember if that was actually the case.

X games take more dexterity so you'll constantly be holding and pressing different combinations of buttons. Dash jumping, wall jumping makes you much more maneuverable than the classic megaman games and the design expects you to use it.

The classic games strictly punish you for bad timing and have less leeway for course correction.

The zero series expect you to master the gameplay and punishes you for using the elfs.
In the x games you can play through them and go back feel like you master. It doesn't deprive you of techniques or powerups even though you might not eventually use them. Zero is like you want this you must prove you are worthy first and makes it all about chasing your ranking.
