I usually go with Science, but I actually went with Lockpicking (at first anyway) last playthrough, and I found that to be more useful honestly.

i almost always go into science in some shape or form, so it's always an option

lockpicking ain't too bad though, not knocking it

I try to build them both somewhat, but if I have to pick definitely lockpicking as there's a lot more locked doors/chests compared to terminals.

Science is more versatile, like having high Science will often work in your favor in dialogues and crafting. Having high Lockpick isn't good for much other than picking locks.
