My girlfriend has been bitching about her job for the lst few years. Yet she does nothing to make a change. She has the option of tramsferring to one of the other Home Depots in town but has some half assex excuse for why the other stores won't work for her. She talks about applying for other positions that come available but never does. There's always some bullshit excuse for why she won't get it and trying would be a waste of time.

At this point it takes a great deal of patience to not go off on her. You don't get to complain to me on an almost daily basis about your job when you refuse to do anything to make it better. Because I'm beyond sick and tired of hearing it. I have zero compassion for her on this subject because she actively avoids doing any of the things that would make it better. Like she can't be happy unless she's miserable andnhas shit to complain about.

It's funny, I was thinking about this just moments ago. How I was going to go about telling her I'm tired of hearing about it and she needs to keep it to herself until she starts trying to make it better.

It takes steps

First you gotta make sure that resume is in check, spend a day or an hour checking each others resumes and point out things that can be better only in the interest of seeing them happier

Then find a list of places and actually have them walk in and speak with someone (Craigslist is good for this). You have to actually drive them to these places and thats okay because you want this relationship to work

Then check up with them on whether or not they sent a reply back and encourage them to reply even if they dont want to

When the day comes make sure you iron all the shit for them or whatever and drive them there

They may bomb the first interview but you were smart and applied to multiple places so its not the end of the world

One thing I learned when I first worked at Disneyland was that sometimes people get through their days easier if they vent about anything, including the job. Sometimes the job might demand more from you than what you're mentally or physically ready for. Sometimes it gets stressful because there's lots of customers or phone calls to deal with. There's nothing wrong about venting or complaining, but when it's done in excess or it starts becoming your personality or makes you violent is when it becomes a problem.

Yep, our CPA firm has gotten more job applications than we have ever gotten in our life. Granted, we do provide the best pay and benefits for level entry positions, so that might be playing a big role.

Occasional venting is fine. But no one should listen to it for hours every day.

My job is meh right now. I plan to leave but around the year or two year mark so it doesnt look bad on my resume. I complain occasionally because its still crappy but they pay me great money so I put up with a lot. But Ive worked a job where I found myself complaining nonstop. It was seriously toxic. I spoke with my husband and he supported me quitting without lining the next thing up for my mental health. We were in a good financial position to do that though. Not everyone is.
