I don't get why smelly food elitists want to push foods that don't have GMOs in them. So what if they modified the genes to bear more fruit or resist pests and disease, or have more nutrients? It's literally not going to hurt you.

It's like in Pokemon games: you can spends days farming eggs and doing IV breeding and getting right nature and egg moves, etc. Or you can just use a program and make a legal hacked pokemon in a few minutes >_> The end result doesn't change anything and it saves you time and sanity.

The GMO argument isn't rooted in any science at all or logic from what I can tell tbh. It's actually hilarious to see what people label as non-GMO, because there are only 7 or 9 crops in the world that have GMO options.

Source: I'm a Plant Breeding MS and have worked in agriculture my whole life.

Isn't every food grown technically a GMO, it's just the tech was changed rapidly with modern advancements. Farmers in the old days were technically rooting out any bad crops or updating their farm techniques with anything they could get to get the best yield.

Don't know much about it to know, but it's not like there haven't been products in the market backed by the science of the time that it was safe like cigarettes, or cocaine, or even medical procedures like lobotomies.

I dont blame them too muchlike 90% of the time you put the safety of stuff in the hands of corporate industry they will cut whatever corners they can and it ends up going to absolute shit. And in the media its like 99% of the time. So when some company is like hey we are gonna Jurassic Park some better tomatoes or whatever I dont necessarily think people are crazy for being concerned, even if they are wrong about them being unsafe.

GMO safety evaluations are conducted by the EPA/USDA on specific transformation events for years prior to open field trials even.

A lot of the complaints people have actually end up being against Plant Variety Protections (PVPs) which apply to all sold commercial seeds, GMO or not. Without those, there would be no reason for companies to try and produce newer and better seed, so we'd still be planting inbred corn lines like in the 60s.

GMOs aren't inherently bad, they can actually be very good.

Unfortunately, often instead of making crops more resistant to pests, they make crops more resistant to pesticides, so they can use more, which poisons us too.

The increased use of pesticides is a big problem. We are using too many pesticides on crops as well as on lawns.

Pesticide run off causes algae blooms which screws up the life in waterways.

I have a home garden. I can notice the drop in bees. I remember as a kid having tons of bees around in the summer. Even 10 years ago I would see multiple bees when checking my garden. The last couple of years they are scarce.

Pesticides are ruining things. I am all for anything that makes us rethink how much we use them.

If we dont slow down there will be nothing in shops because we are doing something to kill off the pollinators. I had to hand pollinate my zucchini this year because there werent enough bees around to do it. You dont get the vegetables if the female flower isnt pollinated. Big scale farms cant do that.
